how do the stars need to align for a regime change?

Tim Beckman got fired for abusing players. It would be irrelevant to the conversation at hand except that he did some seriously horrible stuff to those kids. National news bad.

Yeah, I guess I knew about that... i didn't break down every firing. Just pointing out - there aren't a lot of schools firing guys who aren't having losing seasons or scandals of some sort.

Ok, so what if the poll was taken after 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2015?

For some of the seasons you listed, here is their record at a given time:
2010: 7-2
2011: 6-3
2014: 7-3

Do I think that if today's circumstances (in terms of staffing and the thought of BF taking over) were placed into any of those 8 scenarios, could the poll give different results? Yes I do.
Yawn.

The poll was about BF taking over as coach. Anything that happened before he was even on the coaching staff really doesn't apply too much, right?

And, in '10, 11, & 14 the record after 7 games was 4-3 or 5-2. Not much different than this year.

Also the guy KF started ... for 2 seasons BTW. I'm still waiting for all the schools that are firing their H/C after winning seasons?

Had to make rumbling about going to a different school for that to happen.

KF was ride or die with ruddock.

And CJ shouldn't have played in a lot of the games last year. He was injured, immobile, and took a lot more damage than he should have just so we didn't get embarrassed in a majority of the games.

Kirk is not going anywhere until he says he's going somewhere. I think it would be great if Brian Ferentz worked out and became the head coach, not because his last name is Ferentz, but because he's shown the ability to transform a mundane, middle of the pack (at best) offense, and turn it into something really good. He's not there, I doubt he's even close to being able to run a program like Iowa. Maybe he won't get there, and in 5 years or so Iowa is looking for a new head coach, not named Ferentz. Or maybe he does get there, and we welcome him in as the head coach. It's been, at best, a bumpy start, but I'm not ready to say no way after 7 games. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect improvement in these last 5 games so we can see the offense is on the right trajectory.

Contrary to the words of the late Denny Green, I'm not ready to crown his ass, but I'm also not ready to toss him out.

lol - Ruddock is a backup QB in the NFL. You know how many coaches would have likely got that wrong? Most...but the big difference is ... he did go with CJ. He ultimately made the best decision for the team. Just like you discredit him for starting JR at first, I credit him for getting it right. You could name double digit instances every season at programs that have a tight QB race where the coach picks the "wrong guy". There's one in the state this very season. What about USC last year? It happens EVERY WHERE to EVERY coach.

Also, the Niners cited CJ's toughness when they drafted him. His play through injury helped him. If Iowa held him out after being hurt his Jr. season, who knows where he is right now? Probably not a starting QB in the NFL.

so CJ getting lit up because of his injuries, poor OL play, and poor playcalling was good for him?

and KF leaving him in the whole game against FL after we are getting blown out so he can hobble around and take sacks showed the 49ers his toughness? I would agree it shows toughness, but it shows how little the staff cared for the well being of their star player

watching him stand in the pocket against stanford was even worse.. just felt bad for the guy

How about a class action law suit again the university and ferentz about how they've caused us all irreparable harm, stress, etc.? We need a lawyer to take the case. Anyone?

So you can include 2010 and 2011 when it supports your point even though BF wasn't on the staff then either? Interesting...Actually their record was 5-2 each time in those 3 seasons.

My point is, if the conversation about whether you feel comfortable with X person taking over after KF leaves and you take that poll directly after a bad loss that puts the record at 4-3, the results are going to be skewed a bit. I believe people feel that 5-2 looks different than 4-3. Had they won last week, there wouldn't be as much uproar.

CJ is healthy now and still stands in the pocket with no presence and takes the sack.

Well, I mean really - We watched him play hurt for what 25+ games of his career?.. Nearly 2 complete seasons of him hobbling, getting beat up and limping all the over the filed.... and suddenly in the FL bowl game, his last game, in the 4th quarter, we're supposed to say "Woah, that's ENOUGH, he's gonna get seriously injured out there" ... it's such a cop out and a narrative that was driven by one of the color guys comments. Come up with an original thought and instead of just regurgitating some one else's take, look at something objectively through your own lens.

Yeah, CJ should have been taken out in a lot of the games last year. What was the point of keeping him in? We sucked last season and the only reason we kept him in is because it would have been absolutely embarrassing for KF

so ... 8-5 sucks ? tell me more

Yeah, I don't really get that. 8-4 seasons are pretty solid in my book. I've always said I'd be pretty satisfied with 8-4, most years. Be nice to win a few bowl games, though... Not sure what's going on there.

Iowa needs to win a bowl...badly

Chances are this year, Iowa won't get thrust up to a higher bowl tier and might get a team they actually are equal to or that ....even might be considered less then. Recently, that hasn't been the case very often. The down part of having such a good traveling fan base.

Yeah, 8-4 #21 Iowa against 8-4, #20 Florida was just such an unfair mismatch.
12-1, #5 Iowa against 11-2, #6 Stanford. How could anybody ask the Hawks to be competitive??
7-5 Iowa against 6-6 Tennessee. Why are these bowls so against us?

Maybe we can draw Drake in a bowl this year?

Oh you mean the Florida team that won the SEC EAST and was widely considered the conference's 2nd best team to Bama - playing the B1G West's 2nd place team that was widely considered the conferences 4th or 5th best team?

Or do you mean Stanford, the PAC 12 champion playing the B1G's 2nd place team?
