how do the stars need to align for a regime change?

What has to happen so we can start a new era of Hawkeye football?

and are we really planning on passing the torch to his son for more of the same?

1. New AD
2. Lose out this year or win only one more game
3. Win 5 games or less next year.
4. In essence, it's not gonna happen.

I believe that is the unstated, but obvious, plan. However, to be clear, "we" aren't doing anything, except buying tickets, buying Hawkeye stuff, watching on tv, and articulating brilliant, yet unnoticed, plans for an Alabama-like dominance of college football.

I don't think the word "we" counts for much. Some of "we" are going to complain and make some people mad on here. Rob will enjoy the massacre. Fry will become more stoic. Josh will pop up like a Jack in the Box. Good will waiver back and forth as he puts his toes in the water on being a slight negative about things. Dean will eventually come out of hiding and swear.

I'm going to continue to be marveled by KF and what he does. I will loosely watch things. I will cringe every time Wadley throws himself to the lions. I will continue to gripe about the lack of wrap up tackling. I will feel bad for Stanley and wonder if he'll stay or opt for an NFL career.

I won't be surprised if "we" win 1 we shouldn't or lose them all. The "me" part of we saw this coming years ago, like prior to the 02 team. I was embarrassed but quite proud when "we" went to the Orange Bowl 2x". Me was very negative but very proud and again embarrassed by 2015. Will we be on Rebuild 4 or 5?

Even in 2015 there were kids who shouldn't have been playing ....playing. Eventually it catches up. Now whether or not Kirk can surprise again.

This time, what ever happens will be a result of the Real Kirk program being in place due to BF. I'm anticipating a negative outlook. History supports I just might be wrong. For awhile.

First, KF has to retire........You could lead a concentrated 'buy out the rest of KF's contract' movement.

You beat me to it, but I was just going to say: A Kirk Ferentz retirement is the only thing that will bring a regime change. KF is going to be our coach as long as he wants. We'd better warm up to that fact.

This is all barring scandal, or a string of 3-9 seasons, but I don't see either one happening. The expectations from those drawing up his contracts are pretty lenient. Run a clean ship and make ANY bowl game, keep the $$$ coming in, that's all it takes.

Yeah. IMO, pitiful Hawk fan base.

does he have a lot of influence? is it because he is such a great guy? how did his son become OC? is this a family business? I don't get it

Why does the hawkeye fanbase feel like we owe him anything?

What does it take for coaches to typically get fired from any where? I'll hang up and listen, but Ferentz hasn't done any thing to deserve being shown the door.

Y’all missed it. The eclipse was last summer. You asked about stars aligning, that was the 1 in 100 shot. And with all the natural disasters this year, it was obvious that this was the year for another earth shaker like Kirk leaving Iowa. Alas, the time has passed.

This is exactly right. Well said. To me, Iowa football is like ESPN. To really catch the mouse’s attention (aka, parent company Disney) stop spending money. No more tickets, shirts, caps, etc. Don’t watch. Don’t go. Boycott. If we want ESPN to change its format, or want Iowa to change head coaches, make it hurt in the pocket book. That’s the only way. Otherwise the “we” with the power are ok with Kirk. And hate to say it, but he will coach (and schedule) his way to 10-2, 11-1 in the next couple years. That is how the cycle works.

KFs contract has the program held hostage from it happening on anything other than his terms... At least until a few more years go by or a crazy powerfully rich booster were to step up willing to pay buyout... The ball is in his court and he's got nothing better to do then keep doing what he's doing so win lose or draw I think he'll be Iowa's coach till he's had enough. Iowa's not firing him this year or next yr regardless of record or if a new AD would enter the picture. You can take that to the bank

Let's take a look at some of the coaching changes in the B1G.

MSU - John Smith had 3 straight losing seasons to get canned
Purdue - Hazell had 4 straight losing season to get canned.
Michigan - Rich Rod - 2 losing seasons and a 7 win season to get canned- Brady Hoke - 1- 7 win season and 1 losing season to get canned.
Wisconsin - hasn't fired a coach in decades - but the last time they did it took a coach 3 straight losing seasons
Nebraska - Fired Solich for 9 wins and has been cursed since. Fired Bill Callahan after a losing season. Fired Pelini after telling his fans to go F themselves and getting their doors blown out every time they played on national TV. They are likely to fire Riley after his 2nd losing season in his first 3.
Illinois - took 3 straight losing seasons to fire Tim Beckman. 1 losing season and some off field issues for Bill Cubit and currently seeing Lovie Smith working on his 2nd straight losing season
Penn State - Took a coach hiding a child molester in his program - BOB left for the NFL -
Maryland - Fired Edsall after a losing season

you guys are seeing the pattern here right? I could on and and on. As it stands, right now, there's not a lot of precedent of schools firing coaches who don't go through losing seasons. A lot of them stick it out with their guy who has proven it before too - like MSU, ND, etc.

You guys are so far off base it's crazy town.

moral of the story - it takes losing seasons pretty much anywhere to get fired. If you want KF out - it's gonna take that. Please tell me what schools are firing coaches who have won 20 games the last 2 years and are currently 4-3 against one of the tougher schedules in the country?

List em out.

People with mouths need the money to put there. In essence, the biggest donors have to want it. Failing that, the GREAT majority of fans have to want it.

My guess is that few--very few, as in...probably "none"-- of the people that post here have that connection/relationship with the big donors, let alone being big donors themselves. And the great majority of fans don't come on here, and would be embarrassed to be associated as Iowa fans if they ever did visit this place.

But those that pay have to decide. That's the bottom line, 'cause reality says so.

The part I put in bold is classic. It also may just be the funniest thing I have read on this forum, or ANY forum. Ever.

You need to get out more.

If you were at least 10 by 2000, you could see the play calling. HF's last 2 recruiting classes WERE considered top 25. The play calling was evident. The lack of gamesmanship. The Bank's situation in 01 should have been noticeable. The fixation on the contact...not signed and so on. The guy had very little leadership experience. That's why no surprise. You are so darn cute...
