How do the next 4 games go?

So, you are rooting for the Hawks to lose because that result would benefit Iowa long run.

How do you know you hypothetical coach can do better at Iowa than KF. I mean, Alford was a can't miss hire, hottest of the year. He drug the program into the gutter. Then we hired the CoY coming off his second Sweet 16 at a small midlevel, another can't miss hire. He was digging into a sewer grate when he got fired.

Most coaching changes fail. I'd rather win ugly than lose entertainingly. Since you claim to be an Iowa fan, who wants Iowa to lose so we can change coaches, just curious who are the available coaches that will improve a team in Iowa's situation? We know what we have now so your thoughts only if there is somebody you can guaranty will win more at Iowa. I know that's a tall order because most coaching changes at non-BB schools usually fail.
As I said….
I would be willing to endure losing out - if that's the only way to implement changes to the offense we need to be competitive in the future.

Iowa was 5-4 in the B10 last year.
Iowa will be lucky to be 5-4 in the B10 this year.
Iowa was near last in TO in FBS last year.
Iowa will likely be near last in total offense this year.
The success you are admiring in the rearview mirror is farther than it appears.
While the car is heading off a cliff.
Yeah, you have to look so far back. Afterall, season before last, so that is all of two years ago, we were 6-2 in the Big Ten and won our division. The last full season before that 202110-win season Iowa was 10-3. It has been more than ten years since Iowa won only 7 games. Who's the guy that wins between 8 and ten wins virtually every season, and certainly in the last ten years that is taking over at Iowa?

Hopefully last week's shit show will force some changes. I do know BF has attempted to resign mid season and was told no. The QB starter in the next game will let us know if the Ferentz regime has given up.

Resigning after this season ends will be fine with me.

Teddy,

The wins and season wins vs. losses are fine, but only to a point. Most fans don't expect a top 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 offense. We would however like to see the offense in the 60 to 75 range. Just an average to slightly below average offense would get the Hawks another win or two each year. That's the difference in a 7-5 or 8-4 record as compared to a 9-3 or 10-2 record.

That's huge.

As would I. But I have accepted the kinds of offensive limitations that existed 2019 and before.

Accept isn't the right word for now. I would fire Brian in a heartbeat if it didn't also mean losing KF, which means PP and the great defense. Plus, the likelihood that the next HC won't be as good as KF.

You may be right or you may be wrong with the above bolded/underlined statement.

One thing is a fact. We'll never know until and unless KF leaves.

right now wisky is giving one hell of a game to tosu. Dont know if you could really count the west out...as long as it isnt Iowa. Sorry d and punting wouldnt be enough in the title game.
Iowa is just as capable of losing 10-6 to Northwestern IL and NE as they are to beat them by it. So if anyone thinks Iowa has a smooth road to Indy they are nuts. It may be a straight line in that if they just win they'll be in. But who would be willing to put $ on it?

Every game is going to be a challenge and come down to turnovers and a handful of key plays. As long as QB doesn't F it up and Hawks run the damn ball outside the tackles they SHOULD be able to eek them out.

Given their situation, they still control their destiny and have the best chance of backing their way into Indy if they "simply" take care of business. Win out and they win the West.

However, I'm a jaded Iowa cynic and completely expect the Offensive to find a way to piss it down their legs against any one of the last 4 opponents. If they do, I hope it's against NwU and just get the damn thing over with.

Same... I'd rather rip that band aid off now then wait till Nebraska and have recent history repeat itself again. Or worse win it and go...

And for the record I hate feeling this way. I hate it. Last yr I'd have told someone saying what I just did to fly a kite. But this crap is embarrassing and I'm done being a national laughing stock. So I can't wait for this yr to get over and start the coaching search for a new OC.

He’s not the only one. I‘ve heard plenty of people that rather be entertained at 7-5, than win ugly at 9-3…including Jon Miller. I’m not one of these guys…give me winning ugly all day.
That’s always been my stance, the bottom line.

And that thought process by the donors AD and fans has enabled KF to be enabled and emboldened to run the offense into the ground the last 3 yrs Good bad or worse that's how we've gotten here. Iowa's a team that could still possibly win the west go to Indianapolis and have a monster season on paper. Yet here we are halfway through the yr and the OC job is going to be open for next yr and it's not because KF wants it to be.

For sure; this is being driven by the donors but imo, his son at the position had almost 0 to do with Iowa’s offensive problems. The scheme, the style, the recruiting plan, the plays that were allowed to be called, the players on the field etc, Brian wasn’t calling those shots and the next guy won’t either

Agree to a large extent in regards to the pool of plays BF had to pick from. Yet BF still was situationally calling what he did. I don't think KF was saying call running plays for Patterson on 3rd and 1 instead of QB sneaking it for example which happened twice just last week. Or that KF didn't want BF to ever call for passing plays into the endzone while in the redzone. More then one thing can be true and combined all of those things together equals the net result.

Going forward will be really interesting. I'm still not 100% sold that KF will come back. So if he does and hires the new OC everything about it will be fascinating to see play out

I would rather an ugly 9-3 than a high-flying 7-5...but I would be willing to step back and tolerate a few 7-5 seasons if that is the cost of improving moving our offense closer to the performance level of our D and ST.

Breaking a few eggs (7-5 seasons) seems well worth it if the result is an omelette with a legitimate shot at knocking off a big dog in the B1G championship game.

Yes and no. The overall system and the constraints in which he had to work definitely factor in, but, regardless of the system, a huge part of a coordinators job is to develop and prepare the players.

Brian seems to have a decent feel for Xs and Os, but where he fails the most IMO is getting the players ready once they step onto the field. Missed assignments, lack of coordination and timing, poor communication, lack of flexibility to adjust to the defense, inability of the players to read the defense, etc., all fall squarely on him and his assistant coaching staff.

If players fail by executing a poor system "perfectly," that's one thing. But, when they fail due to lack of execution, regardless of system, that's on the coaches.

I don't know why Brian would even return for the next four games. Let Budmayer (sp?). Try to find a good your offensive oriented coach from the MAC or Mountain West.

It's kind of pointless because Iowa football is dead after this season.

Why do you think that will happen? Most coaching changes fail. Iowa fired it's winningest BBall coach, coming off a Sweet 16, and twenty-four years after Dr. Davis was fired Iowa is still not back to the Sweet 16. Or, after Evy left Iowa had twenty consecutive non-winning seasons. I think there four coaches between Evy and 'ol John Hayden.

Surrendering success for aesthetic style is a formula for losing.

I don’t think we are dead next year. Cade back in the mix, 2 TE’s return, overall recruiting has been greatly improved the past 3 years,
(look at the ratings), new OC good for recruiting future, new recruits look positively at opportunities in the “new” BT. Trips to the West Coast, yeah!
Dont ignore the opportunity to recruit East, Central, and West.
