how big would the meltdown be...

No meltdown at all I.M.O. I just think that something is bothering him a lot more than we know because he doesn't look like he wants to be out there or he doesn't know what is wrong and its frustrating him.

Archie is done this year, and there is a difference of opinion on whether White will be a 3 or a 4, it is mainly on here that he will be a 4, but the popular opinion is he will be a 3 on the other sites , and a lot of people on those sites or announcer don't see him as being slow or unathletic.

gatens, ogelsby, marble, bc, may are all quicker than white and they all got worked over off the dribble against indiana. white would be hard pressed to do even as good as they did in the backcourt. he is a 4 that can play some at the 3 but not consistently. he will look really solid taking a 4 out to the perimeter but not so if a 3 is on him he will need to post up. he is a tweener like mccabe was when he got here but with more athleticism. it will be easier to make him a legit 4 than a legit 3.

I don't know that anyone said White was slow or unathletic. I just think he will play more 4 than three based on who we have. We do have some defensive issues against the dribble drive and I'd tend to agree that would not be his strong suit against quick threes. I do think he'll deal 4's a fit on the offensive end and hope as he grows and matures he'll become more effective defending them in the half court.

Ridiculous thread. Some fans must crave drama if there is none. Iowa bb has no drama for 6 months,so the BB board is getting slow,so time to create drama?

So are we going to start a meltdown meter for each player in the program now?
Aaron White?
Josh Ogelsby?
Zach McCabe?

What's the point?

I'm going to meltdown when Brommer graduates.

Okay, when Lick showed up, he was not able to retain his best player, who reportedly would have left no matter what - same with Fran. After year one - Lick lost a PG with starting experience who apparently had figured out he didn't fit prominently into future plans - same with Fran. At the end of year 2, Lick lost a kid who everyone on this board had identified as the best player on the team at some point - if Mel leaves...

Here is the difference - Lick's second and third class imploded with Tucker and Cougs. He also waited until his 4th class to hit his stride recruiting, which was too late.

Unless Basabe is unhappy here for personal reasons, I don't see him leaving. He wanted to play high D1, so he moved halfway across the country with McCaffrey and has invested two years. As Ghost pointed out, Basabe has been exposed without Cole's presence down low. McCaffrey speaks glowingly about his work ethic and attitude, so I hope it's just a sophomore slump.

One key to the success of this season was Basabe; another major key was Cartwright.

Basabe just is not the same player he was last year and who knows why? He definitely is the difference in some of the losses this year. Play like he did last year and we win some of those games. Perhaps it is the old sophomore blues...some players experience it.

To start talking transfer is a bit premature though don't you think? Besides, help is coming in the way of centers and forwards to take some of the pressure of Basabe. Once the freshmen big men get comfortable and (or) Olasani, Basabe will be able to play more his game.

White can stroke the ball from anywhere. He has handles that allow him to drive the ball. He has good passing skills.

A 3 is not a player who sets up at the 3 point line and waits to jack up 3s. He is a slasher and mismatch guy. He forces smaller guards inside to post them up and pulls bigger guys outside and breaks them down off the dribble. The 4 is typically a pounder. Think McCabe and Basabe.

Gesell / Marble / Clemmons
Marble / Oglesby / Ingram
White / May
Basabe / McCabe / Meyer
Woodbury / Olaseni / Meyer

If you look at the roster for next year, who else do you see fitting in at the 3 position? Fran isn't going to have Basabe, McCabe and White sitting on the bench while May stands on the court and occupies space. White is a perfect fit.

We will have 5 guards next year, depending on how where you see Marble playing. Marble would make a good 3 IMO, as we will have others more suited to the rigors of playing the point. McCaffrey will be able to go big or small based on the matchup, which is a luxury we haven't had in a while.

With more depth and talent, Basabe won't be under the microscope and may be better off the bench as an energy guy to run the floor. The half court game, at this point, does not seem to be his forteit.

"How big would the meltdown be?" is the most overused thread title on this forum. Usually used by insecure people who hope to bolster their self esteem. By using this hook thread title, they hope to get a lot of page views. Typically the situation they have created is improbable or inconsequential.
In this case, it is both.

White hasn't "stroked the ball from anywhere". He's shooting 27% from 3 overall and 23% in the Big10.

I might be wrong about this but I just don't see that as the starting lineup because there is no outside shooter in the starting lineup besides Gesell. I thnk Ogelsby will start at the 2 and Marble will be at the three position.
