The lesson that should be taken here is that college refs are bad in general. Be it football or basketball. Its very rare to get a good crew. So don't leave it in their hands.

Or perhaps a more likely lesson: officiating is really hard. I think that is a more likely explanation than assuming that all of these individuals who dedicate a significant portion of their lives to becoming good at officiating are just grossly incompetent.
