For the second straight home game, Iowa had a ranked opponent on the ropes and let them off the hook, falling 62-59 to #22 Michigan State.

Can't get too down on the Hawks considering their best player wasn't out there.

This what happens with a freshman backcourt. It's going to be so exciting at times...other times you'll pull your hair out.

Fran didn't go with that excuse, but he did these young guards no favor with a very weak non-conference sked.

Physically they are no match for juniors and seniors in the B1G...yet they had flashes because of their talent. But with the game on the line...their youth showed. Get ready for more disappointment. As they go through the conference the second time, I can see more inconsistentcy...fatigue, expectations not met. Not a slap against these kids...I love 'em. THey are just not ready for Prime Time.

I never thought this team would get a slot in the Dance...too many freshman guards. Why do mid majors pull upsets against the big boys? Seasoned, experienced guard play.

For years, we’ve all said and in some instances celebrated the fact that the Big Ten is the most physical conference in the sport. It seems to be getting worse every year or at the least it’s to the point where it’s just not good basketball. Teams are going to take advantage of what they can get away with and the Spartans have taken advantage of the bruising Big Ten more than any team the past decade. They play great defense, as a rule, but they are also incredibly ‘hands on’ when it comes to how they defend. Without Marble to attack the rim, Michigan State was even more aggressive and was never really penalized for it.

If that's the case, then do it back.....

Iowa did not let Indiana off the hook, Indiana was the better team that day.

I think they'll become more consistent, and Iowa will be better by the end of the year because of it. Expectations not met? From your point of view about getting ready for more disappointment, more inconsistency to come, it seems like the expectations are exactly being met. But then, you didn't express what your expectations were for this team.

Iowa had several chances against Indiana and didn't execute...same thing but worse against MSU.

Actually that's how you ready a young freshman backcourt. You don't throw them to the wolves right away.

Thats it right there. If you take any one thing. How the officiating went, free throws, turnovers, fouling a player shooting a 3 and have it go more the Hawks way and that's a big W at home against a ranked MSU team without Marble. Close doesn't cut it and Mcaffery coaches that way. I like that he isn't making excuses for the freshmen ball handlers. It is what it is and I hope that if this team is a bubble team towards the end that that game isn't what keeps us out

Really disappointing not to go 1-2 down that opening 3 game B1G stretch, especially with 2 at home. Tough games all but had a chance in two and played sloppy. The 'not back yet?' jokes are worn out but basically sum it up. This team will have to really fight to get a shot at the tourney this year, which IMO constitutes 'being back.' Still loving what Fran is doing for the most part and am optimistic for the future but need to see a lot of improvement through the end of the year from everyone, freshmen, sophs and juniors in order for next year to be the next step forward in this program and Frans tenure.

Then we have to be at least .500 in the B1G to have a shot a the Dance. Where is our signature win...ISU?

Who thinks we go 9-6 in conference the rest of the way? Granted, we don't have to deal with Michigan schools anymore, but our three point shooting is atrocious, we turn it over too much, and only play defense when we aren't tired.

KXNO plays a promo where Fran talks about 'expectations.' We lost Marble for a huge game...and got nipped at the end. The youngsters are going through the growing pains. He warned us in that promo, that things really need to fall together for a NCAA bid.

Not out of the realm...but next year may be more realistic.

One major positive was that our defense was so much better than against michigian.

With Marble we win that game (given that he matched the defensive intensity of the rest of the team- because he was one of the culprits at Michigan).

You cant assume that. With Marble in the lineup, McCabe and Basabe dont get near as many oppurtunities as they did the other night.

And who is to say Marble doesnt put up another 1/14?

Bottom line is the Hawks should have won. There tourney chances are far from finished though as they have a lot of winnable games left.

do you mean should have won on talent? No

Should have won on how they played? NO

Should have won to make the dance? Likely.

Learn how to type a coherent post for once.

And if you are saying the MSU loss more than likely cost the Hawks a shot at the NCAA tourney then you are an idiot.

Maybe you should learn how to read English. If you read I said that then you are a bigger idiot. Would it have been a big boost? Of course.
