Hlas: Please, people, stop using "B1G".

I've never used it. I think its pretty dumb, just like most of the recent marketing efforts regarding the B1G

The Big Ten has been trying way too hard lately to be creative. Its been case after case of over-thinking things. KISS.

I like B1G.
Just a lot of people out there that like to complain.
Wouldn't have mattered what names they came up with for divisions, etc...those people would have still cried like little sissy's on message boards.

Lets hear your marketing ideas.

The primary thing I would have done differently is to go with the Lakes Division and the Plains Division. I would have also put things up for fan vote and listened to what the fans wanted. Also, when things were rejected by the fans after they were announced, I wouldn't have stubbornly stood by them. I would have taken an approach like the Iowa Energy did when they were named. When it was clear the fans hated the options they were given, the team re-thought things and went with a more likeable name. They listened to their constituency instead of ignoring it.

"Hlas" is not the boss of me. I'll call my conference anything I want.

I agree and think their marketing stinks. I've slowly accepted the Legends and Leaders concept simply because we have no other choice but I really think they dropped the ball in the way they split up the divisions. I live in an area whre people hardly know the Big Ten has its own network. I bet not one person in ten I meet here could tell you whether Ohio State plays in the Legends or the Leaders division. As much as I hate the SEC they did things right splitting their divisions geographically and keeping things simple.

That's fair enough, seems reasonable.
But you know as well as I do that there are gonna be people complaining no matter what.
There's also a lot of stupid people out there that think their ideas are really, really good!
You know, like the people that wanted an east-west split, those folks.

Just imagine if someone came up with a trophy game idea today & decided to call it Floyd of Rosedale. People would be all up in arms, bent out of shape about that too. What a stupid name, who are their marketing people, why don't they listen to the people, blah, blah, blah.

I would have been ok with lakes & plains, i would have been ok with Woody & Bo, i would have been ok with lady gaga & snoop dogg divisions. What difference does it make. The smartest move probably would have been to corporatize them, collecting another payday.

i'm good with Legends & Leaders divisions in the B1G conference and I can't wait for the Heroes Game.

I can't tell you which division Kentucky, Vandy, Alabama or Auburn are in without looking at a map. How's looking up the B1G divisions any different?
I know they're in the SEC, so who cares.

Which division is Oregon, Ore St, Cal, Wash, Wash St, Stanford in.
I couldn't tell ya.
And I don't care, its not my conference.

Also, there is zero chance that SEC football fans don't know the B1G has its own network.
Zero.
They might not have it, watch it, or acknowledge it but they know.

I have no issue with a friendly difference of opinion but why do you feel the need to call people who wanted an east-west split stupid? A large segment of the Big Ten fan base didn't like this division set-up when it came out. The Big Ten didn't exactly seem very responsive to the feedback they got on it.

Mike, it's called a logo.

But if you want to put your journalistic weight behind something start with the ridiculous division names.

Then move on to the unnecessary sense of urgency to create a trophy for a rivalry that doesn't even exist yet.

Oh, and I've always wondered. Why does your newspaper have to use that difficult-to-read old font for its name?

You have to live in SEC country to really get the full flavor of it. People around here consider the Big Ten garbage. And yes, many people here have no concept of the Big Ten Network. I called Cox Cable here when I still had cable and asked about adding the BTN and the rep had never heard of it and knew nothing about it. Guys I work with maybe have heard that the Big Ten has a networrk but couldn't even tell you if they have it in their tv package. The Big Ten basically doesn't exsist in people's minds down here. Think before you write things you don't know anything about.

Not meaning to call any individual stupid.
The idea of splitting geographically is/was stupid.

You do that & the "west" would have ALWAYS been perceived to be the weaker division. ALWAYS, no matter what. True or not, it would have always been seen that way. That could not happen, Delany knew this, every university president knew this.

Once competitive balance was identified as the top priority, there were 2 options, contrary to what most people believe. Those two options consisted of 1)what we have today & 2)the other was Iowa & Wisconsin switching divisions.

I get that people think its easy, its simple, it makes sense on many levels, etc...but its a shortsighted, poor business decision. Its as simple as that.
