Herbstreit has Iowa #7

Well, it could be worse, he and other media like him could not be talking about Iowa at all at this point in the season.

Be careful what you wish for, I guess! Embrace it.

Ha..I haven't been to the message boards in a long time. Back in the day if I saw a thread that didn't interest me or I didn't want to comment on..I wouldn't. I'd skip it.
That's still true. I mean, you're not going to know of those who decided to skip this thread. If you respond, by definition, you're interested.

When are you peeps gonna realize it is all about the money and TV ratings. Why do you think Baylor and TCU got left out last year and why they do not want Iowa in the mix? ESPN is at the table with the committee.

He watched our "defense" turn Mitch Leidner into Aaron Rodgers.
I won't lie, immediately following the game I felt teams like Alabama, Clemson, or ND would score 60 on us. But a few days later, I put on my Black and Gold sunglasses and will be outraged if we aren't #5 tonight!! ;-)

I'm sure he would tell you he is going by what he sees vs. only W-L and SOS. Say what you will, but I think Herbstreit is fair and genuinely believes that Oklahoma is a better team than Iowa. He's not on the committee anyway, so I won't fret over it.

#7 is pretty good, no? Win out and prove we are better on the field.

This. It doesn't matter much at this point. If a 12-0 Iowa beats a 12-0 Ohio State, Iowa will get the bump. Iowa will get the same bump with a win over a 10-2 Michigan who is in the title game.

Narratives take a while to break. Iowa is forcing its way into the conversation by winning. But Iowa will not get the benefit of the doubt like other teams who have been good for a while (see Alabama, Stanford, Oklahoma, etc.). And that's almost to be expected. I guess what i don't get is the amount of vitriol/dislike displayed by some of these media types for Iowa. Not just ranking them lower, but going beyond that denigrating Iowa. I thought sports were all about what is possible? A team that exceeds beyond expectations. Some of the talking heads act as if this playoff is some sacrosant thing that holds the world balance of power. If Iowa wins out, it will deserve to be in the CFP. If they are left out, then you might as well call it a figure skating competition where only a select few at the start of the contest have a shot at winning.

Agreed...as does Herbstreit ...Iowa has no worries, they are in as long as they win.

As to the wanna-be pundits, I think they just get sick of the vocal, whining minority of Hawk fans that pester them "relentlessly" with texts, tweets, etc of "whoa is me- what about Iowa?"...it's overboard. They are essentially just trolling those that continually complain for their own selfish amusement, and of course ratings. It was all good 4 weeks ago to get on people's radar, but the continual winning streak has continued and expanded that exposure. Patience. Confidence. (And laying off the send button on tweets to pseudo celebrities)!

Just win baby!

The tide's already turning. We aren't getting disrespected as much now as we were earlier. Part of that is probably because you can't really argue about us anymore but part of that is because people who have watched us are becoming respectful of how balanced we are, CJ, our defense (even though it sucked against Minnesota) and the way we control games. Our games have been weird because if you just check the score you see that we won close games and our reputation is that of a team who plays close games against teams we shouldn't but that narrative isn't exactly true this year. we are really squeaking by teams even though the score may reflect that. Most games this year we've controlled and most games it seemed as though we would ultimately win because of that control but you only really know that if you actually watch our games which I am sure there just isn't time for a ranking committee to do (though I assume the less teams that are eligible, the more opportunity they get to watch us)
