Herbie has Iowa #4 for 2010

On ESPN, Herbie just listed Iowa #4 going into the fall of 2010. He has OSU #2 with Bama coming in at #1.

Does that have BSU at #3, with 21 returning starters, a victory in the Fiesta Bowl, I would think they would be very highly regarded.

Herbstreit saw us in person a few times this year. Seems like the announcers that call Iowa games get on board with the Hawks after seeing us up close (Remember Craig James in the AZ game, how surprised he was with Iowa's speed). As opposed to say Holtz who probably didn't watch a snap of Iowa football this year and continues to pick against us week after week.

Next year is going to be a real special year. Moreso than this year, IMO. This is the worst few months of the year.

FYI, he had VT at # 5 and Oklahoma at #3.

I don't know what else BSU has to prove. They bring 21 starters next year, and they will finish this season ranked (probably) #3.

However, they play VT early next year. If VT is in the top 5 and BSU beats them, they should rightly be in the driver's seat for the title game.

You're right on, Ghost. They will be in the driver seat and can probably rip off the mirrors 'cause nobody will challenge them after that. And that's what kind of bugs me. They will have their toughest challenge from Wyoming? Or Oregon St?

We will be challenged nearly every Saturday by quality opponents, as they set the cruise control for the championship game. Bummer.

Given that scenario BS might be, but that doesn’t make it right. There should be more to a "body of work" for a NC contender than one quality win. That only further cheapens the current flawed system college football uses.

Which is why all of us should be cheering for VT. They are more likely to lose a game or 2 after the Boise game than Boise is with their joke of a conference schedule.

exactly ... go VT

I got the feeling we might be 5th or so for preseason 2010 if we won the OB

Play a halfway decent schedule is what they need to do. A couple of quality wins in five years doesn't constitute a world beater. Do you honestly think they'd run the table or even have 9 or 10 wins in a BCS conference?? Heck no! Heck, ISU had a "quality" win this year against Nebraska and that doesn't mean they are a "contender". Boise doesn't have to go out and schedule the elite teams for non-conference games, they should go out and schedule the ISU's, the Minnesota's, the Arizona's, to start getting some credibility. If their non-conf schedule was VT, Arizona, Minnesota and Iowa St. people would have much more respect for them because that's the type of schedule these BCS schools play year in and year out.

IMO, for what it's worth, I think Iowa or Nebraska at a neutral site in a big game atmosphere, would beat Boise by at least 2 TD. Two "quality wins" in two seasons does not constitute a "dynasty". PLAY SOMEBODY if you want my respect. Remember, just my Opinion!
