Heiar is also leaving Iowa

4 if you include Rodney Coe

I don't since he never made it to campus and could come back to Iowa
This shouldn't be happening at this rate, I find it to be highly alarming to say the least.

Why, Grant has family issues, don't know what they are but it happens. Heiar was injured in a car accident and realized he would likely never play so that happens. Really only Raymon was just gone, and he was said to have issues with being at Iowa the day he stepped on campus.

I wouldn't be alarmed, this happens.

It is unacceptable that Kirk Ferentz permits "car accidents" and "family issues" and the old excuse "said to have issues". Iowa has the worst player retention of any BCS school*.

Yet another reason KF has to go.

*I'm not positive if this is true but I read it on the Internet.

I'll just say that no matter the reasons, this isn't a "new" problem.
However, it is growing & almost always is a bad sign.

This looks & feels a lot more like a tearing down to rebuild than just a rebuild to me.

Not too worried about this. So, will our 2011/12 recruiting class get a little bigger due to these defections?

Really....new to college football eh??!?!?

100% inaccurate......I'll wager USC has lost close to twice as many (probably not twice, but they have lost a lot for sure) in the last 10 years and in fact I'll wager most of the recruiting factories all lose kids at a similar if not higher rate...

That's the fish bowl, see everything you do, instant gratification society we live in.

On a side note, why do some try so hard to find extra things to be upset about or to bury this staff with?

Once again this is that perspective thing I talk about continually. If people watched nationally they'd see similar things happening every where.

PS.....I will predict though, we'll see the same complaints by the same people in another thread. Because reality doesn't fit with what they want to see.

If we lose that McCall guy, that would make number...?

Maybe we should sign 30 some kids, like the SEC, and see how that shakes out.

I think its part of the deal to lose some guys each year. When the OWI happened I was surprised he didn't jump then. Raymon was a big loss due to our needs but some kids can't get over the home sickness and not being "the big man" when they get to college. Others thrive on it. Hopefully we can land some better buys. It sucks about Grant. His family situation really stinks with an illness driving his move. He had potential to be really great for us...........Next man in.

yeah, what is it about continued, repeated complaining about complainers? of which I' m generally not, but they do add to a debate.

Every college program loses players out of every recruited class each year for a variety of reasons. This is just the norm I would guess.

Really......?!?!? See Alex above, that will help you put it into perspective.

that is what i was thinking about sec and recruiting. to them, stuff like this is not a big deal. they, in a sense, pack 5 recruiting classes into a 4 year time period. advantage?? nah...........

Hat tip to PRHawk from TOS for finding this nugget on Wisconsin's attrition: Scout.com: Hawk fan here with a comment and a question.

And from a Florida poster: "Since 2006, Florida has had 46 4 or 5 star recruits either quit the team, never got off the bench, transfer, or got booted for legal issues. All led by that Will Hill Clown"

If someone wants to argue Iowa's attrition is any higher than the BCS average, please supply some facts from outside the black-and-gold cocoon. Maybe it's true... but just a quick glance around the country indicates this stuff happens everywhere.
