One thing's for sure, this new news already has me twice as pumped for the game and iowa football in general than I was earlier today.
My circle of trust angle is I wondered if they gave the interview to the Tennesean without going through proper protocols, since The REgister said they requested to speak with him but were denied.
I don't think CJ said anything crazy in that item...but the whole this is the first time the competition has been open this year was certainly an eye raiser...that can be worked with..giving an unsanctioned interview, probably not...this was sanctioned.
Which begs the question why didn't they let CJB talk with The Register
Hey moron, what he is saying is our coach led everyone to believe it was an open competition this year at QB. So CJ should have been given the nod as #1 after Purdue. Of course Clueless lied to everyone about the open competition. That's my point, it was NOT a competition. In either case.
JR won the job in 2013 and 2014. One can certainly argue the merits, but based on the Purdue game, CJ was clearly not in "He took the job!" mode. Probably for the same reason Jake doesn't go more off-******. Not a case of "nerves", but a case of listening to the OC and not going to the other position coaches or the HC and voicing concerns.
Again, that's JRs biggest problem, IMO. He needs to speak out/up. The Maryland game, especially post-Weisman TD drive, should never have happened.
Remember when everyone wanted Rudock over Vandenberg
QB is a problem because it looks like the most talented player isn't playing. Same thing can be said at RB. Same thing for WR.
The OL was a problem. Some of that is due to 2of the 3 mentioned above. The LBs weren't good most of the year and DBs were inconsistent. Other programs that are inconsistent on defense try to make up for it on the other side of the ball where they can be aggressive and hit opponent's weak spots.
Again, absolutely nothing against CJ, but I've not seen enough to brand him a clear-cut starting QB. That's not to say JR is the better choice its simply saying that I haven't seen him enough to say that he is head and shoulders above JR, despite the fact he makes throws that JR doesn't.
Yes, when a QB is not performing, most football programs make a change at QB to try and provide a spark.
KF doesn't do that.
So honest question. In the event JR outplays CJ (by no means do I expect that to happen) is the mentality the same heading in to the off season?
