Heard Around the BTN Offices today...

Congrats Jon. I'm happy for you and looking forward to the debut. Will there be any promos for the show in the near future or have I missed them already?

I hope that you have Herb and Lou's on speed dial so you can snag some pizza in West Branch as you make your way to Chitown and back. Travel safely! Chicago driving is the worst. Also, please run some smack at those dudes on Friday Night Tailgate because they are not funny! I think the BTN should hire Trey Stross as a sideline reporter, so I can hear Wayne Larrivee say, "Now, down to Troy Strause for a sideline report!" Lastly, enjoy the Rotel Salsa. I enjoyed watching those nacho recipes from around the Big Ten on Friday Night Tailgate.

To borrow the words of Paul Rhoads, with a tear in his eye:
"I AM SO PROUD...THAT YOU ARE REPRESENTING IOWA ON THE BIG TEN NETWORK!"

It's really only been 3 years? Seems like a lot longer, but that's probably because they didn't take long to make it an elite network, and it's run smoothly from Jump Street.

They hit their three-year mark on August 31, and this will be their 4th year of broadcasting football and basketball.

Jon: Just get a copy of Chris Vernon's interview with Michael Heisley and try to emulate it as close as possible.

Um well, maybe just with Zook.

I talked to a few friends from IC(one works for the college) and they had vastly different opinions about the O-line. They pretty much said the offense couldn't create gaps unless they were matched against the third string. This is vastly different from a don't worry about it statement. My buddy was very worried.

That is all really great news Jon, especially about the the makeup person from Oprah. I got really sick of looking at Revsine's halloween orange pumpkinesque face last year. And no I am not joking around or being a smart alec. Revsine looked orange last year and I thought that it reflected poorly on the new BTN.

I could be wrong, but I think the BTN flies him in to do the show.

Was the tv show you and Deace had on Mediacom a helpful experience in preparing for production?

The marketing Dept of the BTN could use a few dollars thrown their way. "The Pulse"? How long did it take them to come up with that? They must have been listening to "The Pulse" on ESPN radio and thought that sounds like a good name we will just use that.

Good Luck

Any Charissa Thompson sightings yet??

LOL. Nah. I am not sure I would be able to recognize her. I really don't pay attention to that stuff.

Let me help you out.

-I can't begin to tell you what a first class operation the BTN is...the studios are state of the art, the control room is out of this world and the people are some of the best in the industry at what they do...even the makeup specialists used to work on the Oprah show ;)

.

1) How much chair time does it take to make Jon fit for TV?

2) Does pancake makeup get rid of perma-sweater?

BTW you do a very nice job of remaining calm... you make it look like you've been in the end zone before... but don't think for a second that all of Hawkeye Nation doesn't know that you still giggle yourself to sleep each night thinking about this opportunity.

I for one, would not kick her out of bed for eating crackers....I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.

Somebody was retelling the 'rough' early days stories today in the BTN offices.how there was so much fighting between the cable companies and the BTN...and how very few radio shows or media outlets let the BTN explain their side of things...he then pointed at me and said 'Except for you. Looks like that didn't hurt you any.' and he chuckled.

At that time, I gave a BTN Exec a standing offer to come on the show whenever he had 'news' back then, and he took me up on that a few times. I just felt like the BTN was going to be great for fans, of which I am one.

Fast forward three years later, to last month, the day I auditioned for the show but just before the auditions and I had no idea how I even got the call to audition for it,...I saw the same Exec in the BTN offices and said 'Yeah, I am here to interview for The Pulse. Not sure how that happened.'

He smiled and said 'Well, if you don't do well, then I won't take any responsibility,' laughed, and walked off.

Moral of the story for the youngsters out there: don't be afraid to plant seeds because you never know when you will have a chance to reap the harvest, and never burn a bridge ;)

Jon- That is a great story and I have seen that scenario play out many times during my life. Telling somebody to "take this job and shove it" might feel good for 10 seconds but it will haunt you one day. So many people do NOT understand that.
