Hear me out, our fall back could be our answer.

Our TEs are versatile and can line up wide which makes it seem like a WR is getting the catch. In addition, our new fullback is a former TE and he can get in on the action as well, he just needs time to learn the system. The ball distribution going forward will be good.

I agree, especially with Large, but this coaching staff just has not done it.

Put me in the box next Saturday and going empty backfield, 5 wide and throwing beyond the sticks on every play. Maybe I would sneak on Don't run anything that requires wide receiver blocking. Use them all as targets or decoys. Throw all over the field.
Please tell me the last time an Iowa team with Kirk as the coach did this. And don't forget that even when our RBs went down and we were using a walk-on as our starting back and we had Drew Tate as QB that we STILL didn't do that. We can talk about doing this until we are blue in the face but it will never happen under Kirk.

You seriously want to spread out and leave the worst OL in the conference even more on an island when the defense knows it's 100% a pass play?

Have you ever been involved with the sport of football before?

Trying to get Deacon killed?

I want the opening play on Saturday to be 5 wide, Deacon under center, QB sneak. I like second and 3 a lot better than second and 11. We should have a 5 on 4 or 5 on 5 matchup in the box if we go 5 wide and then someone can try to drag down 260 freaking pounds of Iowa quarterback one on one.

Here is possibly the most recent example.
Iowa was trailing 24-3 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd Q. They had been dismal on offense, predictably trying to run the ball. Desperately behind, Kirk took the shackles off the offense, went with 4 wideouts, threw the ball all over the place.
Vandenberg finished 31/48 for 427.
Note the length and time of the drives in the comeback.

IOWA rush for a touchdown.
iowa drive: 5 plays 60 yards, 01:55 iowa td, 1:55
249
IOWA pass complete for a touchdown.
iowa drive: 7 plays 73 yards, 02:14 iowa td, 2:14
2716
IOWA pass complete for a touchdown.
iowa drive: 7 plays 64 yards, 01:37 iowa td, 1:37
2723
IOWA pass complete for a touchdown.
iowa drive: 7 plays 64 yards, 01:31 iowa td, 1:31
2730

Predictably, Kirk reverted to form in subsequent games. Returning to two tight ends and narrow splits.

I was at that game. It was unreal. The people right in front of us left at the end of the 3rd quarter. Hee hee

As a bonus, here are the highlights with Beth Mowins.

Yeah, I know that. Just offering a different approach for conversation's sake.
