Hear me out, our fall back could be our answer.

Temper your optimism. Iowa Stats:
1. 222 yards of offense, 166 passing and 61 rushing.
2. 14 of 32 passing completion rate.
3. 2.26 yds per rush atempted. 1 fumble
4. Time of possession 26 minutes.
5. No offensive TD in the 2nd half. So far Iowa offense has 4 games not scoring a TD in the 2nd half.

Hill's passes much better than Petris, so that is a major positive.

But what I have been telling people is that about anywhere from 50-80 yrds were left on the field due to senseless dropped passes. Passes right on the hands. There were 5-6 dropped balls that should have been caught.

I actually think he looked pretty good and have been thinking the upgrade in arm might actually benefit this situation. The advantage McNamara had was his legs, BUT WHEN HEALTHY. He hasn't been and they've had to be careful so really it kinds of ends up being a push comparing his mobility/chance to run with Hill's arm.

With Hill's body impetus and an advantage of taking hits, Iowa might have a just tad more of an advantage with Hill being able to take contact coupled with a strong arm. McNamara brought experience along with a bit more mobility when healthy, but that hasn't been the case.

So, if anything, in my view, the ceiling might just be a tad better due to the difference in McNamaras' legs. If anything it just might be a push because it has been proven in all the past years that it really doesn't matter who ends up playing the QB position as long as they don't turn the ball over. After watching Hill, I don't think it really matters who is running the ship in the Ferentz offense.

Bro, if he has good touch and accuracy on that long lob to a wide open TE down the seam he will be the best QB we've had in several years. He's also going to give us a highlight reel bulldozer run when some corner is blitzing on that bootleg.

This has been true every week. This is the Iowa offense. Zero receiver talent. We'd almost certainly be improved by taking strong high school receivers off the street and just telling them what route to run in the huddle. The dudes on the roster do not belong in a D1 game.

No way you are telling me that an Ohio St. 4 * recruit has no business being on the field. I realize there are some issues right now, but you can't sell that to me. Ohio St. doesn't biff on recruits that bad. They have so much depth that some might not play, but that doesn't mean they are biffing on recruits.

Charlie Jones looked like a below average receiver here but goes to Purdon't and catches over 100 balls last year. It's about the coaches using the WR's in Iowa's offense more than it is missing on all WR recruits.

Couldn't get on the field there, transferred to a school with the worst receiver talent in the history of the sport other than maybe service academies (sometimes), still can't make a difference. I'm going to guess the dude just isn't good. 4* players don't always pan out. Any dude who can get open would've been fed the ball the first four weeks. We don't have a dude who can get open.

He was a freshman so is still quite young. That's prob the reason he was buried, especially at Ohio St. I don't know the ages/years of their other WR's on roster.

Well, we have no choice, we became diehard fans during the Hayden Fry era and now we are stuck.

I just worry about the next Gen of fans that we are potentionally losing.
I was not yet 2 when Iowa went 8-0-1 60. I was a college junior when Hayden arrived and a grad student when we had a winning Rose Bowl year. The much smaller Kinnick looked empty by half time.

Beginning next season, that's what it's going to look like. Iowa will official become untermentchen in the Big 10. An average record of 8.5 wins is going to look spectacular.

Put me in the box next Saturday and going empty backfield, 5 wide and throwing beyond the sticks on every play. Maybe I would sneak on Don't run anything that requires wide receiver blocking. Use them all as targets or decoys. Throw all over the field.

The only positives I see are he can do a sneak and won’t explode if hit. Every throw is hard as possible, got no touch.
Touch can be learned, velocity and arm strength cant be. He also looks like he's dropped a few pounds. At the game and I was impressed with his pocket presence. He felt pressure and had the ability to just fleck the ball to get rid of it. Big upside if he can learn not to throw where the safety is waiting. If the receivers hang on to just 3 of the catches that were dropped I would have been happy. It's been so long since they were targeted they might have forgotten how to catch the ball. LOL

Right, there's not a lot of scenarios where Iowa can win in any fan's eyes at this point.
Sorry, but Purdue has been very good for a new coach and new players. Did not expect them to shred Illinois like they did. IF, and I say if Iowa wins, it will be a good win.

He has some big drops already. With the backfield stretched so thin I wish Iowa would pull a Tyrone Tracy and try him at running back which was his position in high school. Worth a shot to see if we can get some value out of him.

The Cheatin' Illini are falling apart. Their only wins are FAU and Toledo. Purdue lost to Fresno State and got pasted by Syracuse. Neither Purdue nor Cheatin' Illini is particularly good.

This brings up another valid point. One of the issues with Iowa at this time is the distribution of balls to various receivers/players, all skill players in the offense. Good offenses have balls going to a number of targets (WR, TE, RB's, even FB). Iowa has not had that for some time now and key on the TE. The TE's are good, but it is not a good sign for a team relying just on TE's.

Our TEs are versatile and can line up wide which makes it seem like a WR is getting the catch. In addition, our new fullback is a former TE and he can get in on the action as well, he just needs time to learn the system. The ball distribution going forward will be good.

I think Deacon ran a good ball game. Iowa just needs to start improving. I expect that we will. Especially on defense. There is talent there. Surprised that we dont have a pass rush tho.
