Hawks Will Need at Least 11 Total B1G Wins

No offense guys but I’m going to trust Lunardi. 9-9 (and 7-3 in our last 10 games) would get us in. The issue is getting to that point.

Um, no way. We are your best win so far and basically you have 2-3 possible chances left for quality wins. You haven't beaten anyone of significance away from Carver. They don't let you in for just being associated with the top conference. You still have to beat quality teams (plural) inside of it.

The badger is correct on one thing. Iowa hasn't beaten quality teams in the conference. Zero wins over quality teams in fact, in Carver or away from it.

I still say Iowa needs 7 more wins between conference and BTT to get in. If Iowa was to win 6 more in the conference and win 1 in the BTT that would put them at 21-12 overall and winning 7 out of the last 10 games. I think that the committee will see the amount of close games Iowa has lost to ranked teams as a good thing. There are 68 spots in the tournament with 31 automatic bids, the committees job is to get the best 37 at large teams into the tournament and I think Iowa has proved they can play with the best teams in the country.

But Iowa has their backs against the wall, they cannot afford any slip ups against teams they should beat and that includes beating Northwestern tomorrow.

Well, this team almost never slips up, so go ahead and reserve that hotel in Chicago for three days. You'll need it.

It's all about Iowa winning a bunch more games... mostly they need to beat Minny, Purdue and everyone else not named IU. If so the Hawks are a lock.

If Iowa finishes 10-8 in the Big Ten and having beaten Wisky, NW 2 x, Minny and Purdue gets the Hawkeyes in.

Mark my words... btw

IOWA is BACK

Slim chance of that happening. I would book it 2 nights max, and that is only if it is to late to drive home the 2nd day.

8-10, 9-9, 10-8...take your pick.....not going to happen for Iowa this year.

This isn't the BCS where # of wins outclasses quality of wins.

SoS rules. Iowa's unfortunately, doesn't.

Let's go 10-8 and win 1 in the BTT and at least play a close game in round 2 of the BTT. I think that's enough to get us in...will have a reason to watch the selection show with some anticipation. We'll never know if this is enough unless we actually do it. The endless arguing we're all doing on this subject won't matter until we get that 10th win on Eric May (Senior) Day.

Side Note - If it comes down to our weak out-of-conference schedule so be it. It's the schedule this young team needed and had to play. If we play a killer schedule and come out of the non-conference at 7-6 losing to 4 quality teams we're dead right now unless we win the BTT...IMO.

Problem is that we don't have many more chances for a "signature" win other than Indiana. Beating Minnesota at home won't be that impressive. Beating Illinois at home won't be that impressive. Beating Indiana on the road would be impressive, but I don't know if it would be impressive enough.

I think we can get in with just 10 wins if 1 of them is against Indiana at Indiana. We've had a hard schedule and the committee looks at that. We have been close in every game except Michigan. The committee knows the B1G is tough and even the top teams in the Big East and Little 12 would not do as well as we have.

What are you talking about? Illy just beat Indiana. Minny has a bunch of great wins. Iowa beat Wisky and Wisky just beat Meechegan.

Yes Iowa needs to beat Minny and Illy at home to get in the tourney and only one or 2 more losses, otherwise.

Do any of you watch other college BB games, teams and other conferences? Iowa has been competitive in every Big Ten game except for the 2nd half at MI. The Big Ten conference is, hands down, the best conference in America (God Bless).

Iowa has a solid OOC win over IA ST and another couple of decent wins against UNI and WKY. No bad losses at all.. maybe VA Tech.

Iowa absolutely needs to defend home court and win 2 more games on the road.. if they do they are a lock for the NCAAs

I don't see how 10-8 doesn't get us in. 9-9 puts us on the bubble.

We could be a strange team where we are 9-9 with no great wins and no real bad losses. At that point you're probably putting a team with a bad loss but a good win or two against our no bad losses but no great wins either.

I also think the fact that we have played so many close games against bad teams could be a thing that puts us over another team. It shoes that we can compete well enough to play in the tournament.

Edit: I guess there's a good argument that Virginia Tech is a real bad loss. It's certainly not a good one.

Beating a ranked team, home or away, is plenty impressive.

If Iowa State wins the Big 12 is that win become a "signature" win? Or does the Big 12 suck too badly?

10-8 is a lock. If anyone does the math Iowa would finish 6 or 7 th with that record. Even if they don't win a game in the B1G Ten Tourney, which I doubt (predict at least 2 wins) they still could get a 7th seed....

Mark my words, still a month to go and

IOWA is BACK

Illinois will not be ranked when we play them. Yeah, they beat Indiana, but they're still 9th place in the conference (one game does not make a season, just ask TCU). Minnesota could easily fall out of the rankings, if not this week, then if they lose to Wisconsin for sure. You're talking about 2 teams that have a combined B1G record of 8-12.

Plus, for RPI, they only count as .6 games if we win. If we beat Indiana, it's 1.4. We have one chance at a "signature" win, and that's against Indiana.
