Many, many former Hawks that are in the pros did not show up on the stat sheet tonight...and that's usually a good thing in the fourth NFL preseason game.
The is the fourth and final preseason game is the meat grinder game...teams are at close to 80 players on their 'rosters' right now and in two days have to cut down to 53 (or is it 54 this year?). Most vets and rookies who have already earned their keep don't see much action at all in the fourth preseason game...and in looking through the box scores tonight, that held serve. This game is all about throwing the expendable players who are going to get cut, out on the field so the league can cash more preseason checks and get on with it...this weekend will see a lot of dashed or postponed dreams. Huge stats in the fourth game don't always translate into making teams...in many instances, the decisions have already been made.
Ricky Stanzi: Did Not Play, but he will make the Chiefs roster. Tyler Palko took most all the snaps in the second half, and he may make the 53 man cut down but KC may look to bring someone else in after they scan the cut lists and see who is available..Starter Matt Cassel was injured in the first half...and if Stanzi is going to be the backup, do you want to put him in to risk injury when you were already dumb enough to leave Cassel in the 4th preseason game that long?
Ryan Donahue: Another great game for him...4 punts for a 44.0 yard average, 57 yard long and one downed inside the 20. He did some holding too and there were no missed kicks...8 year Detroit Vet Nick Harris had two punts for a 51.5 yard average. Harris has been the longtime holder for Jeff Hanson..I think in the end that wins out and Donahue will be released by Detroit...but I think he'll make an NFL roster before this year is out.
Ken Iwebema: had a tackle for Arizona
Tyler Sash knocked Patriots back up QB Brian Hoyer into next week on a blindside hit that also forced a fumble, his second in as many games. He had seven tackles (all solos) and TWO sacks
AJ Edds: Led Miami with six tackles...he'll make the club
Jeff Tarpinian did not dress for New England tonight...he has missed waaay too much time to make an impression...could see him getting signed to their practice squad though.
Karl Klug: TWO sacks for Klug in the Titans win over New Orleans. Klug is gonna make the team...all the way from Caledonia, MN
Mitch King: Three tackles, one for loss...crossing fingers
Tony Moeaki: 2 catches for 20 yards (two targets), but was injured in the first half (knee). Doesn't seem like it's too serious as no one is writing about it in that light.
Brett Greenwood: one tackle...I am not optimistic that he makes the Steelers roster.
Adrian Clayborn: Didnt play, will be an opening game starter for Tampa
