Hawks in ‘Receiving Votes’ For Top 25

Especially since there's lots of talk that baseball is going to get cut as a sport. Brommelkamp and others have posted about it.
If they cut baseball, I'll stop supporting IA athletics completely. No, it's not a money generating sport but the B1G with expansion is finally becoming a competitive conference and the Hawks remain competitive within the conference.

I agree. With all the new teams in the league i think the Hawks have a chance to make some noise. I’ve heard they’re trying to make the jump for hockey to Big Ten in the possible near future, so I hope they would not cut baseball.

Don't look now, but Coach Heller has the Hawks all alone atop the B1G standings. After whipping the Goofers yet again on Friday in Minneapolis, here's the up-to-date conference standings:

IOWA 10 - 2
Oregon 8 - 2
UCLA 8 - 2
Wash 5 - 2
PSU 8 - 4
NW 4 - 3
IND 6 - 5
ILL 4 - 4
Mich 5 - 5
USC 5 - 6
Purd 3 - 4
MSU 3 - 5
MD 2 ' 5
MN 2 - 7
NEB 2 - 7
OSU excuse me TOSU 0 -- 7

This team has gotten off to a much better start than last year. Pitching seems to be stronger, good depth which later in the season is key.

Gotta love weekend sweeps of two BTen teams. Granted, those teams have a combined 2-14 BTen record (!), but the Gophers' RPI prior to the Iowa series was #24 due to some big early season wins...after the Iowa series they dropped to #38. After the MN series, Iowa's RPI jumped from #120 to #98 now -- primarily because of a SOS ranked #179.

Here's an update on the B1G baseball regular season title race. The Hawks have two more wins in the conference than any other team
The top teams and their conference record:
Iowa 12 - 3
UCLA 10 - 3
OR 10 - 5

IN, PSU & USC all are 9 - 6
IL 7 - 5
MI 8 - 7

Iowa has 3 home games vs 4 - 8 NE this weekend
3 road games @ 8 - 7 MI

They do not play UCLA this regular season.
Nine more home games. The weather will warm up. Get out and support the Hawks as they make a run for the B1G Conference title!

I think the OR games are in Des Moines @ the AAA ballpark

Actually, Iowa plays Oregon State in Des Moines, May 9, 10 and 11. Those are non-conference games.
The season ending series with the Ducks is in Iowa City.

Friday the Hawks blanked the Bugeaters, 1 - 0 keeping Iowa in first place in the B1G conference.

Saturday's first pitch will be thrown out by Head Hoops Coach Ben McCollum.
Sat and Sun are going to be beautiful days.
GO WATCH THE HAWKS whip our beloved neighbor to the West!

With Coach McCollum at the game greeting the fans, the Hawks again whipped the Bugeaters, 11 - 6, courtesy of a big 8th inning rally.

The quest for a series sweep to maintain their B1G conference lead has the first pitch on Sunday at 1:00 at Duane Banks Field.

Even with the tough Sunday loss, where a potential game tying two run homer was snagged up against the wall, the Hawks are still in first place in the B1G.
Iowa is 14 & 4, and UCLA is 12 & 3, so the Hawks are a 1/2 game up. Ducks are 2 games back at 12 & 6.

Interesting stat regarding the full schedules of sunny LA and the wintery Midwest:
UCLA has played 26 home games, 7 away and 2 neutral sites. The Hawks have played 13 at home, 15 on the road and 4 neutral sites.

Sucks for me this year, I live in far western Iowa and always go to the B1G tournament if the Hawks make it, this year my son graduates that weekend so I won't get to see any of it.
