What shocks you about our offensive coaching staff not using him in more novel situations for these coaches??? Nothing surprising there. For example, why not when Wadley is a soph. use him in the slot with Leshun D or Canzeri in the backfield to pull an extra defender out of the box. McCarron was a very fast slot guy and Easley was above avg. but Wadley would scare the hell out of a D Coord flanked out like that. But we hardly did that as in getting as many playmakers on the field as possible with a many times challenged offense.
Wadley's receiving skills and YAC were great. I still think his last minute TD in Ames in 2017 was one of the great offensive plays in Iowa history considering the play itself and the score, time in the game, and position on the field.[/QUOTE]

So frustrating to think about how un-explosive Iowa's offense was this past year.
- QB with experience and a massively talented arm
- Two freak of nature (first round draft caliber) TEs
- Solid athletes and other pieces all around the offense

Original post updated through 3-cone. Both Iowa guys dominating. Probably heading out for the day, so I probably won't post anymore updates today. I may be mistaken, but I believe it's only shuttle runs for TE's and bench press for Nelson left today.

Craziness.. I heard someone ask if NE at 32 was eyeballing Fant and the guy said he won't be there to be had then.. So that'd make both of them first rounders. I just think with how O coordinators in todays game like having versatile weapons that having either one of them is a game changer. TEs have become almost as important as RBs in an offense have. Depending on the team you have look around the league. NE, Philly, KC, SF now. I'm sure there's plenty more just off the top of my head. But if an O Coordinator can get a guy they can use down the middle of the field like them guys are it just opens everything else up. Puts safeties in a no win situation. Do they play the run, help on outside receivers or help LBs cover guys like that... TEs are the ultimate X factors in todays offense along with RBs that can catch passes. The new age Barkley, McCaffery and Kamara. Those guys that don't have to come off the field but you can do anything with them as well are tough. Traditional football isn't what it used to be.

Fant's playing time was cut because the Ferentzs' are petty...I can find no other reason.

Imagine having two 1st round draft choices at TE on your team and you still can’t complete 60% of your passes.
The Big10 has the Ferentz stretch play figured out. Now, these two gems are gone. Hawks are gonna suck next year!

Nelson with 18 reps on bench press. Lowest of D-linemen. Not really that surprised, though, because of his length. Guys 6+ inches shorter with arms 3 inches shorter are going to have an advantage. On the combine tracker I'm following, he's listed as a DL, and not an Edge. There were Edge guys with lower number of reps.

Not just minutes cut but underutilized when on the field. What was it? Zero targets against Penn St until midway through the 4th quarter. And then of course he made a couple of big catches.
That game in particular there was plenty of incompetence from The Family. Either you intentionally target him (he was impossible to cover after going in motion or on a quick slant) or if your qb isn't doing it then you pull him and get someone else in there who isn't a freakin deer in the headlights.
Nope. It was status quo from The Family.
That game more than any still gets my blood going.

Yes, in a perfect world, Barta would've paraded out Ferentz after Dolphin and Fran. Kirk then apologizes for the way he underutilizes players. Barta proceeds to give him a half game suspension and a $50 million ten year contract...with bonuses.

Pure guesswork, but I see Hock going in the first round based on accolades and tons of private praise the scouts will get from his coaches.
Fant probably in the second round based on several factors, among which will be the dog whistle "specialist". He also hurt himself imo by skipping the bowl game. That calls into question his toughness and team focus. Though I do understand why he felt compelled to give the middle-finger to someone who couldn't figure out how to use him to full affect. The problem for Fant is what I call the "Kaepernick syndrome". Fair or not the NFL is starting to take into account where a player ranks on the SJW scale.
I expect both players to do well in the NFL. Fant has more talent and Hock has more maturity. Impossible to predict which will have the better career. I hope they have the same amount of success. In the years to come people will talk about Fant the way this board talks about Tim Dwight. Meaning lots of comments about how the coaches didn't get the most out of his prodigious talent.
