Hawkeyes Get Visit from 4-Star QB

Look, Iowa is gonna need a little bit of luck to land this kid, but listening to his father Jack Peavey talk of Kirk Ferentz reminds me why I haven't given up on him yet. Regardless where this kid ends up it sounds like he has his priorities straight, and has had a good upbringing. I said in another thread that posting on a fan message board doesn't mean you know football. It doesn't mean you get much information from inside the program about how things are truly run. That's why the following quote(s) from Jack Peavey in Pat Harty's interview really stuck out to me because it gives us a glimpse inside:

“There is not a head coach in the whole country that has done a better job of recruiting my son than Kirk Ferentz,†Jack Peavey said. “And I’ve never heard a man in the college football profession say a bad word about Greg Davis.â€

Jack Peavey said he admires Ferentz and the job he’s s done in 14 seasons as the Iowa coach. Jack also has a friendship with Davis that dates back to when they both coached at Arkansas in the early 1990s. Davis was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas in 1992 and 1993, while Jack served as a graduate assistant.

“Greg Davis has impeccable character,†Jack Peavey said. “He’s just a really good man.

“And Rafe got a chance to meet coach Ferentz and that was a great visit we had. Rafe wanted to make sure before this thing is over that Iowa gets a good look.â€

“What’s impressed him through this whole process is the unwavering commitment of coach Ferentz and coach Davis,†Jack Peavey said. “Coach Ferentz has longevity in his position, which is important to Rafe. He’s established the program and built a winner. I know they took a dip last year, but the longevity of that program and the consistency is important to Rafe.â€

It's funny to hear information from someone who's own son is being recruited by Iowa. Someone who has more hands on experience with football today than almost all of the people who are on this, and other boards. This doesn't change the state of the program. This doesn't change the fact Ferentz needs to get the ball rolling back in the right direction. I just hope it serves as a reminder that we better be careful what we wish for, because the guy we have running the ship right now has a tremendous amount of respect INSIDE the college football world for his ability to coach football and develop young men. I hope people take that into consideration before making ridiculous comments in the future.

Good points. That said, getting a top level recruit from SEC country away from the SEC will likely not happen. Those schools are starting to come north to take the better Midwest kids (or at least the ones OSU doesn't want). In any case, it's good that Iowa is in the running. I suspect it's due to the kids' dad.

Hahahaha what do you think hes going to say? Kirk and Greg cant seem to get a play to the huddle in under a minute and thats in a 2 minute drill. Onside kicks are a given against the Hawks. GD cant get a kid who is invited to an NFL camp to figure out his offense.

Dp555555 what do you expect people to say at IClub functions. I dont talk about KF at my tailgates or at the game. I have people that I have sat next to for five years that I bet dont know I dont like KF.

Are you thinking people are going to yell out while Kirk is speaking at an event? Hey Kirk "How many men do you get to play with after a time out? Ill give you a hint its not 12."

You think there are not high donors that think Kirk should be gone?

Why is it the media takes shots at Iowa and Kirk ?

Yes this is a message board where you dont have to be polite. You shouldnt have to worry about hurt feelings. Thats why people talk about what they want.

Have you been in the business world at all? Loose lips sink ships. You may think some dudes an idiot but you dont go around yelling about it, and if somebody ask you say yeah hes a good guy. You have nothing to gain by putting somebody else down in the business world.

Nobodys on here to network so most dont care what you think of their views. They arent going to hide anything because it doesnt hurt them either way.

The bolded is what's funny to me. I'm not the kind of person who hides behind my keyboard. If I say something on here I wouldn't hide it in real life. Some would say that's cowardly, but I'm not here to call anyone names so I'll refrain :). I work in healthcare, and I think my ability to be genuine serves me very well. It has so far anyways.

I fully understand this is a message board and people aren't worrying about hurt feelings. They know that their identity won't be put out there so for some reason that gives them a license to be stupid. I'm very well aware that isn't going to change. I'm not trying to change anyone because I understand that would be pointless. I'm simply saying it isn't that hard to think long and hard before making ignorant statements. KF is highly regarded by everyone who makes a living in the collegiate and professional football world. Pretending like your football knowledge is more vast than theirs is ignorance.

I brought up Kirk Ferentz because he was directly mentioned in the article multiple times. Which means he's a part of this subject... get it? Is he not part of Rafe's recruitment? Did his Dad not discuss KF? Maybe they don't teach common sense in the realty world.

Kirk is at the point of his career that if we don't win 8 games next year 96.25% of the fanbase will want him fired. Doesn't matter if that's logical, intelligent or the right decision.... that's football

Its funny that you dont know this about the world.....No matter what your view is of a person(sports, government, and business) it does you no good to bash them. You either say good things or nothing at all.

I dont talk about kirk at my tailgates or at the game because -

1) Im not the drunk guy screaming you suck

2) My seats at Kinnick dont have an ignore feature and people cant just choose to not have to listen to a person. Just as I dont want somebody cursing or being a dumb drunk around me.

3) I come to this site to talk about Kirk, thats not why I attend football games. As in my tailgates are a time to catch up with friends not hash out the offense.

Its not being a coward its having common sense and a little respect for those around you.

I'm certainly glad you don't yell things out at football games. You can respectfully discuss KF with those around you without being drunk or causing a scene. In fact most Hawkeye tailgates I've been a part of he gets brought up at some point. Where I know I've heard many fans question whether or not he's the right guy for the job. That's different than being rude and making obnoxious statements. How you decide to handle yourself is your own business. If I felt that way, and I was in that conversation I wouldn't shy away from mentioning I'm not a fan of his.

My intent was not to derail the thread, as it is a good one about a kid who could be a really lucky get for the Hawks. I was just making a point to mention that the kids Dad thinks very highly of Iowa's head football coach. Someone who is receiving a ton of criticism lately. Some of it which is warranted, and some of it which is not.

Back on topic just for you imported! Which means I'm done responding OutofTown. My apologies to HN.

I'm not sure if it's as much of a pipe dream as HFN suggests. We have a chance at least. He says his decision will be centered around the coaching he's going to receive, and it seems like he and his family think very highly of Ferentz and Greg Davis. The two coaches who would be working with him the most. It would be a bonus if the team could kick off the season in good form. Plus there must be something about Bielema that he's not sure about or he wouldn't have reopened his recruitment. His abilities do remind me of Colt McCoy. Would be great to see GD get his idea of a prototypical QB into his system.

We have a history with this kid, which is good. I believe we were his first offer coming out of high school.

Still, this visit is going to have to be all hands on deck for us to get him. I'm talking Ashton Kutcher, Roy Dev, Ross P. and Jay Scheel pillowfights in the Hotel Vetro penthouse suite*.

*I have no idea what this means.

Id say the biggest thing is to make it look like to is fun to be Iowas QB, because last year it didnt look fun at all.

Love the abilities this kid has and he is just what Iowa needs.... But with a trip to OSU and Missouri I'm not going to get too excited. Have you seen the list of schools that offered this kid?
Rafe Peavey - Yahoo! Sports

Well obviously there is a chance or the kid wouldn't have had Iowa in his his last 4. His dad going out of his way to say what he did about the coaching staff seems to be more then just lip service. How much of a chance is the question that's being argued here not if there even is one or not. He does remind me of a bigger more athletic Drew Tate alittle bit. He'd be just what the doctor ordered depending on how soon he could be ready to play D1. When it comes to recruiting it's just about pointless for those of us not on the inside to get in ******* matches trying to out guess the other guy on what a kid is going to decide. If you actually know the kid their family or a member of the coaching staff that's a different story but if your on the outside looking in what do we know other then what we read or hear?
