Hawkeyes Get Visit from 4-Star QB

after skimming this thread, no mention that he had committed to Arkansas on 6/11 of last year - unless I missed that.
Yea this kid started setting visit dates to other places after Bielema got hired on. He's said he was still committed to them just seeing what all else is out there....

Good comparison to Drew Tate ,imo.
Really has some wheels...maybe faster than Drew.

His dad clearly is involved in football,or at least was involved in football,as a GA back in the day.
I suspect that is why he commented so extensively on KF and Davis.
He knows the BS artists, and the real deal guys. Lets hope he can influence his son to go with the authentic coach and program at Iowa.

I know that everyone on here is still rooting for Iowa to land good recruits, right? Or maybe not?

Its pretty obvious that as long as Kirk is HC some want Iowa to crash and burn.

Peavey, a Missouri native, was an Arkansas commit before the Razorbacks hired Bret Bielema

Bielema is the anti-Kirk. Yes, we have a chance.

It's also possible Dad overdid the praise a bit, just to be respectful of Ferentz & Davis and let them down easy. You know, like the hot girlfriend who says "you're really a nice guy - it isn't you, it's me..." before running off with a muscled-up limo driver with a shaved chest and the IQ of an ashtray.

and it could be that he was being sincere.

I hate to break it to you guys, but it sounds like the visit went quite well. If tOSU doesn't offer I like our chances.

Todd Worley from 247 Sports added his crystal ball prediction to Iowa tonight. Todd has not missed on prediction yet this year. #justsayin

I think the kid ends up playing for Biels. Just has to graduate from somewhere else first.

Playing QB for Bobby Petrino is far different than plauying QB for Bret Bielema.

Peavey actually didn't originally commit to Arkansas until after Petrino had been fired and John L. Smith had been named interim head coach. Yes, the assistants were mainly those who ran Petrino's system, but the head man was different.

Look, Iowa is gonna need a little bit of luck to land this kid, but listening to his father Jack Peavey talk of Kirk Ferentz reminds me why I haven't given up on him yet. Regardless where this kid ends up it sounds like he has his priorities straight, and has had a good upbringing. I said in another thread that posting on a fan message board doesn't mean you know football. It doesn't mean you get much information from inside the program about how things are truly run. That's why the following quote(s) from Jack Peavey in Pat Harty's interview really stuck out to me because it gives us a glimpse inside:

“There is not a head coach in the whole country that has done a better job of recruiting my son than Kirk Ferentz,†Jack Peavey said. “And I’ve never heard a man in the college football profession say a bad word about Greg Davis.â€

Jack Peavey said he admires Ferentz and the job he’s s done in 14 seasons as the Iowa coach. Jack also has a friendship with Davis that dates back to when they both coached at Arkansas in the early 1990s. Davis was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas in 1992 and 1993, while Jack served as a graduate assistant.

“Greg Davis has impeccable character,†Jack Peavey said. “He’s just a really good man.

“And Rafe got a chance to meet coach Ferentz and that was a great visit we had. Rafe wanted to make sure before this thing is over that Iowa gets a good look.â€

“What’s impressed him through this whole process is the unwavering commitment of coach Ferentz and coach Davis,†Jack Peavey said. “Coach Ferentz has longevity in his position, which is important to Rafe. He’s established the program and built a winner. I know they took a dip last year, but the longevity of that program and the consistency is important to Rafe.â€

It's funny to hear information from someone who's own son is being recruited by Iowa. Someone who has more hands on experience with football today than almost all of the people who are on this, and other boards.
This doesn't change the state of the program. This doesn't change the fact Ferentz needs to get the ball rolling back in the right direction. I just hope it serves as a reminder that we better be careful what we wish for, because the guy we have running the ship right now has a tremendous amount of respect INSIDE the college football world for his ability to coach football and develop young men. I hope people take that into consideration before making ridiculous comments in the future .
agree 100%

Visiting Arkansas again is strange, as he was originally scheduled to visit tOSU today. My theory is that he is leaning towards Iowa and wanted to visit Arkansas one last time just to make sure, and maybe even break the news to Biels in person (one can only hope).

People on twitter are saying that Rafe Peavey is "all in" with Arkansas. It sounds like he made some kind of reaffirmation statement after a recent visit or something.

So it looks like Iowa got a visit as a favor to GD because Peavey and GD worked together. Youd think thats what a friend would do. Theres nothing wrong with that Im sure every one of us have gotten a break from a friend or person we have worked with. This time it didnt work out.

However kind words from a former coworker doesnt mean that KF and GD are two of the best coaches in the country. It doesnt mean that only message board folk see problems with both of their coaching and anyone thats had a job in football knows that KF and GD are football masterminds. DP5555 this def wasnt a told you so moment that you tried to make it.

In the end this is a good thing. Its not what you know but who you know sometimes(Ex: KF salary because of Norm Parker). Its also refreshng to see the staff go after higher talent. I think the talent level for the most part has been fine but you still have to be going after the 4 and 5 star talent.

All in all good job GD you gave the program a fighting chance.
