OP went out of his way stating he's not questioning his dedication or commitment.Just when I thought I had seen everything someone actually starts a negative thread about Garza...questioning his dedication and discipline no less.
Sorry, guys. Seriously. My intent wasn't to hate on Luka at all, but on re-reading it, I can see how it can be taken that way. A couple of friends of mine that are B1G basketball fans mentioned it to me, so I went back and compared. Just found it interesting.
Slight regression? He is noticeably better this year in every aspect of his game. But I'm pretty sure the op wasn't comparing last year to this year. He was comparing last month to this month. Quarantine has messed up a lot of people's weight so it wouldn't be shocking if it affected Garza's. Especially since he is a kid who has already struggled with weight. But if it has affected him, I haven't noticed in his game or his size.I respect your OP as I think you were objective and sincere. I'm going to give you my observations and hopefully objective response.
When watching this season, I also questioned if he looks a tad bit slower and at times struggling a bit more than last year. That's crossed my mind, so your post kind of provided me a bit of verification in my thoughts. I can't say for sure if I see any extra weight or what, but does seem a bit different than last year.
People do have to realize that Luka set a really high bar last year. He may have been in his most optimal shape. He made huge gains in his game last year and may have set that bar at it's highest point. I'm not surprised if there is a little dip this year secondary to this and that teams have had a year to game plan playing him. Iowa is now in the cross hairs and Luka's game is as well. Luka still gets 26 pts a game and 12 rebounds so is still crushing it. This is why I think he may have set the threshold for the bar last year. I think he was in his optimal shape last year for his frame.
This is probably a very normal slight regression. He is still producing at an outstanding rate as the bar set last year has provided him some wiggle room, even if there has been a slight regression.
Thanks for the reassurance. All I had to do was walk by my treadmill this morning and I started breathing heavy. Also, in normal years, it would be impossible to call him out of shape without also questioning his commitment. But this isn't a normal year. It's pretty easy to get out of shape these days.
I did LOL at this! Thanks for the reassurance. All I had to do was walk by my treadmill this morning and I started breathing heavy.
You aren't questioning how or why Luka has, in your perception, gained weight and/or let his conditioning "slide"? OK.Don't get me wrong. I'm not questioning Luka at all. I think he's amazing, and probably the most dedicated player we've ever had.
It's just something that struck me as perhaps a consequence of the Covid restrictions, and I was curious if anyone else had noticed it.
Exactly. I only gained about 20 pounds in my entire college basketball career. And in the first six months after graduating and taking a teaching/coaching job I gained 30 pounds in four months. Reason: I wasn't playing basketball for 3 hours a day. It's possible he has gained weight, but at 22 years old, and playing as much basketball as they do, you would have to eat massive amounts to gain 20 lbs in season.
Only 20? Slacker!Exactly. I only gained about 20 pounds in my entire college basketball career. And in the first six months after graduating and taking a teaching/coaching job I gained 30 pounds in four months. Reason: I wasn't playing basketball for 3 hours a day.
But then questions his dedication or commitment by stating he's gained 20.OP went out of his way stating he's not questioning his dedication or commitment.
That's pretty genius... Think of all the time saved by doing that... But I couldn't do it. The agony of it all is part of it to me. It's not as fun to watch sports knowing the outcome ahead of time. But that's just me.I know a guy that is a die hard KU fan. His ritual is to record the game, wait for it to be over, and then check the final score. If KU wins, he watches; if they lose, he doesn't.
A lot of people just can't bear to see their team lose. This KU fan hasn't seen KU lose a basketball game since the advent of DVR. The OP imagines Luka face first in a bucket of KFC. We're all getting by the best we can, I guess.
I'm with you there. I'm the exact opposite. Most of the excitement comes from the unpredictability for me. There's been a few times where I was DVRing the game and tried to block out everything only to have a score seep in from somebody somewhere - I don't even bother to watch at that point =/That's pretty genius... Right! like if I see a final score the only drama is how does it get to it. I just can't either. If I'm watching it from my DVR and I'm behind I stay off social media and just leave my phone down. I don't want to see the score or anything.I'm with you there. I'm the exact opposite. Most of the excitement comes from the unpredictability for me. He did say he was a KU fan. This is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He's a huge fan but only wants to experience the good. Ok???????
I can't stand the people judging others by their cover of the book! What do they know?Just when I thought I had seen everything someone actually starts a negative thread about Garza...questioning his dedication and discipline no less.
