Has Drew Brees Played His Last NFL Game?

What happened to Drew Brees is symbolic of a sickness in our culture, where every word is parsed, every social media post is combed through, to see if someone has failed the test of racial viewpoint purity. If a prominent figure fails that, the virtue-signalers and SJWs twitter posse comes after them hard to silence them or get them to beg for apology. No dissent is allowed whatsoever now or you will be punished.

A Sacramento Kings announcer had to resign because, in response to Black Lives Matter, he tweeted "All Lives Matter". A factual statement that a rational and virtuous society would accept. Not ours.

We've descended into racial identity madness now.

This isn't really a new thing, it's been that way for 6-8 years.

And we also have the choice to stay out of it. If you know you're going to get excommunicated for posting something on twitter and you do it anyway it's partly your own fault. Similar to hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer. You knew it was going to hurt, but did it anyway.

That's why I stay off of social media.

What's being done to Brees right now is just flat out bullshit....let's just call a spade a spade. Brees has done more for the black community, particularly in New Orleans, than every single person who is coming after him on Twitter and other social media outlets right now. It's flat out disgusting.

What we're now starting to learn is this isn't about George Floyd, or systemic racism, or police brutality....this is about an agenda to drown out anyone and everyone who doesn't think, talk, and act in lockstep with a certain agenda.

I ain't down with that at all.

That is true for some, but don't let that aspect overwhelm the real pain and anger from the black community. Just because some (mostly self-righteous white people on twitter) are more interested in villification and a pound of flesh than true understanding, let's not let this close our minds to the people out there who are truly hurting and looking for help. Be man enough to wade through some bullshit and still see the need for help...Lord knows black people have waded through enough bullshit in many aspects of their lives.

Read the quotes Rob is posting from former players...these guys are our family, we need to listen.

I don’t see the guy surviving this. He’s going to have teammates who refuse to set foot in the field with him, and probably some opposing players as well.

Before anyone says the idea is ridiculous, lest I remind you of the unrivaled, unmatched, undisputed year of absurdity you are living in right now, none other than good old two oh two oh. If I woke up tomorrow and the news said there was

an alien invasion and Donald Trump had been replaced by Sally Jesse Raphael in an overnight coup I’d absolutely believe it.

no way, the NFL’s currency is winning and Drew Brees is a winner and has a great reputation except for this one quote, which plays well among 95% of NFL fans.

This may have been mentioned in this thread already, but where Brees went wrong is the kneeling players have made it very clear several times that they aren't doing it to disrespect the flag or soldiers.

Some people will only see that act as disrespectful and they have a right to feel that way. In Drew's case, he should have handled it differently. Started a conservation with his teammates privately and go from there.

Where they attacked him was okay in my opinion. He clearly wasn't listening to the their message. And we need to keep in mind that it was a solider in the first place who suggested directly to Colin Kaepernick that he should kneel rather than sit.

But back to your original topic. I haven't watched news today but I did see he apologized and there is a team meeting today. I think he'll survive the day but eventually he will have to walk away before he plays another game. I don't believe his teammates will be able to move past this.

Most of his teammates probably already know him as a person and know what he's about.

I think you're 100% right on this. If he is the leader that they say he was prior to yesterday and showed personal growth as well as his leadership traits when he spoke with his teammates after being called out, then they move forward. If he wasn't liked or respected prior to the comments then there no coming back.

He appeared very liked and respected by his teammates before hand so I think at least to those that know his apology was accepted and they all move forward from here. Fans and residents of New Orleans may be a different story.

This year is beginning to get compared to 1968, and there was even a pandemic that year as well. The Hong Kong flu simply got overshadowed by the assassinations, political and social upheaval, all the rest.

I was a toddler that year so have only read and heard about it from history sources. The difference is technology and social media has made the whole world smaller and made access to information quicker than in 1968.
1968 was also a Presidential Election Year. ;)

My wife is from Japan. Her parents are in their 80's and lived through Tojo taking the country over. She is extremely well-versed in history. She said something along these lines last night: "I never could understand how groupthink could take a country over, but in the last week, it has become totally clear to me."
She's 100% spot on. As we discussed on the other thread, this has been the approach on college campuses for far too long and it's spreading to the rest of society. So much for tolerance and diversity of thought. It's their way or the highway.

Nothing Drew Brees said needed an apology.

Is Chappelle gonna apologize for calling white people in his audience the n-word?

No.

Is there gonna be an apology from every sportscaster, ever, for referring to black people as athletic and white people as smart or heady?

No.

then his teammates can go to hell. from all accounts drew brees is a good, decent, humble and christian person. if his teammates don't know him by now, they aren't trying. or, they, themselves, have an agenda and they are being disloyal to brees. brees has given millions and millions of dollars to the new orleans community to help rebuild, food shelters, shelters relating to natural disasters and the wuhan virus. when you are on the side of truth and you kneel to those that do not like the truth, then you've lost your way. i think brees should have told his teammates to get lost and retired, because being teammates is a two-way street. if a teammate expects me to understand his particular plight or position, then he should be understanding of mine. it's that damn simple.

This is true, but anything involving racism is a one way street.

If you are a sports or Hollywood celebrity, and you tweet something that others don't like, and Lebron James is the ring leader, they will attack you and call you a racist for the most part. There was nothing wrong with what Drew said the first time. He was bullied into apologizing. Freedom of speech is under serious attack in America by very angry and radical people.

Questioned the word, actions, thoughts, ideas, of a black man regarding social justice.
He technically only questioned the action. And even more technically, he just said he doesn't agree with it. Saying you support the flag right now can be considered tone deaf, but it's not racist.

Remember how Steve Young's career ended?
