Had A Bad Feeling About This

Fant can be a 1st down and TD producing machine in the pros with his speed and jumping ability. Not going to school he can practice catching the ball so it is 100% improved and go to some TE camps .

Hockenson reminds me more of a Kelce or Gronk rather than a Witten who went down sort of easy. Hock will make a lot of YAC and a lot of $$$

You never get very much for a signing bonus and guaranteed money if you are second round pick . You don’t leave early for shitty money . You leave early for first round money .
Are you fucking high?

Second round average contract last year was a $6,244,000, 50% guaranteed at signing.

That’s $3,122,000 the day you sign whether you ever see the field or not.

Nick Chubb was a second rounder and signed for $7,383,000.

Do a little homework before you toss hot garbage out there.

The 11th pick last year got over 10 million guaranteed. The 32nd pick last year got over 5 mill guaranteed. The difference between a first rounder and a second rounder is mostly 2 million and that’s if you are comparing it just to the bottom of the first rounder . Your math skills and common sense are now in question . 3 million guaranteed? Sweet . That will last about 3 months when they buy a mansion and 16 cars. Some players in the top ten got over 20 million guaranteed. You leave early for that money not 3 million guaranteed stupid. You stay in school to try and get more than that .

Both should have been on the field every play, every game. Someone should run the stats for the whole year when we had both on the field vs not. I looked at one game, PSU, and the difference was drastic (2 for 17 vs 16 for 32).

Fant barely played the 4th quarter against Wisconsin to, no 3rd downs, just 1 pass play. Ironically, he was in for every run play but people like to stick to this narrative he's a bad run blocker. Also, the Wisconsin game was before the Chris Fant tweet, so that had nothing to do with it. It's just purely a coaching blunder.

If that's true (and no doubt it is). JFC Brian.

I think the job Brian Ferentz did this year in failing to get Fant the ball will go down as the second worst coaching job ever at Iowa. The worst was in 1997 when Hayden couldn't figure out a way to get Tim Dwight the ball more than 4 or 5 times a game. That was the all time worst.

Don't sell the 1960 - 1965 Hawkeyes short. National champs to complete football irrelevance in less than a decade and 16 years to recover without any NCAA sanctions. I don't think any other school has that in their history. Chicago maybe?

Well, we run a lot out of two TE sets and that's when Fant typically plays. On third down, we typically go to some shotgun/spread formation and Fant comes out. To be fair, they've tried to play him at SE and WR some, just not nearly enough.

I think we would have been better off playing Fant at SE or WR this year, as long as he plays every down. B Smith WR, Fant WR, Hockenson TE, and Weiting/Beyer TE sounds like a pretty good line-up to me. I bet Stanley would look really good throwing to those big targets.

yeah, fant is an every down player and the staff should have figured out ways to keep him on the field. in my mind, that shows the rigidity of the program that takes their best player off the field on purpose because they need to do things a certain way.

I think Fant will go but maybe not Hockenson. Fant is projected as high as #11 overall and the last time Iowa had a skill player on offense go that high was 1960. That's just off the top of my head so somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, Chuck Long was a #12 pick overall and Ronnie Harmon was a #16 pick overall. As far as skill position players, those two are probably the highest in my years as a Hawk fan. Robert Gallery was a #2 pick overall, Chad Greenway was a #17 pick overall and Brandon Scherff was a #5 pick overall, but they are not a skill position players. Would a defensive back be a skill position? Tom Knight was a #9 pick overall.

Daniels and Jackson were graded as first rounders last year. It is still a crapshoot.

Like I said, I am selfishly hoping they stay. That being said, I will always be happy for their success.

All comes down to team needs and the team that is needing having the same perception as the draft graders.

Of course they do, that’s silly. It happens every season all over the country. Anyone who can become an instant millionaire is going to explore that option. If they are going to be selected in the first 3 rounds or higher who can blame them? Fant was always going, TJ earned that right with his play this season. The coaches have helped both of these guys go from unknown and no where near the NFL to being able to consider leaving in 3 years of college. I bet they HATE and resent their coaches. That sounds so stupid. The fact is if they were used more, their draft stock would be even higher, so that makes no sense
I'm not sure that if the coaches actually helped Fant. One could argue that the coaches believed Fant was leaving early so instead of giving him the majority of snaps, they used TJ so there wouldn't be such a drop-off in 2019. That strategy backfired because now TJ is a Mackey finalist, Fant isn't which leads to Iowa losing both.
