Greg Davis to resign at end of year

Masterful troll, SlaterLowtower.

LOL at people thinking a new OC is all Iowa needs to fix their problems. That has been the battle cry for the last 14 years, and next year will be no different. Not sure what more evidence some people need to see, but apparently some people are just that dumb. Another conspiratorial take on this is that it is being strategically leaked by certain inside sources in order to soften the the blow of the impending Nebbie beatdown. Fans won't feel so frustrated sitting in the bitter cold watching the Hawks get waxed because at least they'll be some significant change heading into next year. The whole "will he or won't he drama" can be drug out for about 2 more months, at least a little ways past signing day. By this point people will be so transfixed by basketball and wrestling that they won't give a sh^t anymore, allowing the status quo to remain with as little ******** as possible.

You come in here and accuse people of being dumb, and go on to produce the dumbest theory anyone has ever made on the matter. Solid work here, man. Very funny.
It's not nearly as stupid as the poor ignorant morons that think FINALLY, after 14 long paiinful years of crappy offense under the KF regime, all we really need is some fresh new scapegoat to come in here and we are all of a sudden going to become a dramatically different program. That kind of blind ignorance requires a special kind of stupid that heretofore only existed in fairy tales and ISU chat rooms.

Where is that guy? Find me this person you speak of, and I will join you in ridiculing him. The only thing is, you're the only one who claims to have seen this person.

If this isn't true I will be so ******.

Gerg Davis, OC:

/gets run out of Texas
/takes Iowa job
/early in the season he sees average talent try to run his scheme
/has bowel-loosening moment of revelation when he realizes his detractors were largely right all along
/decides mid-season he won't be back
/calls 1-yard pass play on 4th and 3

My God, read the thread dumb*ss. I can help you sound out the big words if you want.

You're a hot head.

People are ecstatic that Davis could be gone, but everyone knows the offense runs through Ferentz. Someone said a few days ago that this offense we have this year is "Greg Davis' offense within Kirk Ferentz' philosophy." The next offense we would have would be the new OC's offense within Ferentz philosophy, and that will be the case so long as Kurt is here.

Do we think the offense is going to change a whole lot, should this happen? Not necessarily. But do we think the offense should be a little bit better? Theoretically.

If true I would bank on the next OC being hired from within. I have a hard time seeing any decent offensive coach coming here to be forced to play things close to the vest.

Three OC's in three years. That will set any program back and really goes against the familiarity and continuity KF loves to have with his staff.

This is correct! Nobody decent wanted to come here and be forced to run KF's ultra conservative offense.

"It's not nearly as stupid as the poor ignorant morons that think FINALLY, after 14 long painful years of crappy offense under the KF regime."

These horrible, crappy, painful years produced four top ten finishes, a couple BigTen championships, an Orange Bowl win, a significant streak of New Years Day bowl games and several significant winning streaks over traditional BigTen powers Michigan & Penn State. Who's the ignorant moron??

Enlighten us, exactly what offensive scheme do you propose Iowa run? Keep in mind a few simple football factors:
1)Talent and personnel dictate what style of offense a team can successfully run.
2)Iowa plays in the BigTen conference. Any scheme we run must be successful against BigTen teams.
3)Cold weather, small in-state talent pool, small media market, lack of national exposure, academic requirements do effect Iowa's recruiting.
4)Iowa has been able to consistently attract & develop big strong offensive linemen and turn them into NFL talent - a recruiting strength.
So, tell us what will work....zone or man blocking/triple option/run and shoot/spread-option/no-huddle/I-formation/wing T/wishbone/pro set...etc. Are you a Hawk fan offering constructive criticism and discussing solutions or just a total negative As%$hole with nothing intelligent to say?

I agree that it hasn't been a bad 14 years by any stretch of the imagination. Some very successful years for KF. But to act as if you can't have a high octane offense at Iowa is short sighted. Look at Indiana..They hung 49 points on OSU at their place.. I think that may be the total amount of points we have scored on them since KF got here.

I would run their scheme or the one that NW runs. Neither has had problmes recruiting players for it. We know KF isn't going anywhere soon unless he wants to. I want him to be successful, but I want to see some changes on both sides of the ball.
