Greg Davis staying?!?

You can't say the fall from 27 TD to 7 TD all on the QB

It was the same QB

The Difference was the OC

I'm not defending Davis at all. I would be pleased to see him go. But you can't look past losing the best WR Iowa has had in a LONG time. JVB struggled a lot in games his JR year. Hell, he even struggled for most of the game against Pitt. I just think football teams come and go with good QBs, and we didn't have a very good one. While Davis needs some of the blame, I think it is an entirely diff team with a better QB.

Take this for what it's worth, but I was eating lunch at the Tremont today (for you Marshalltownites, I am a poser) and I heard a few guys talking about the situation down in IC. One of the guys, who I have interacted with, he's a large donor for the Hawks, was saying that he has heard that Greg will be staying for at least one more year and there is discussions about him staying around and even a slight raise.

Again I couldn't believe it when I heard it, but take it for what it's worth.

Yeah, but what are the guys down at the Olde Timer sayin'?

Good question. I will stop by there after I pick up my daughter from her dance class. She just turned 4 so I think it's time for her to see what the OT is all about. I am sure she has heard from her friends at preschool how upscale of an establishment it is.

You discount the consistent neutering of QB's in their Sr. year under Ferentz. By the time QB's are Sr.'s KF has them so scared to turn the ball over that they also don't make plays that they used to make in previous seasons. Tate, Stanzi, JVB.
Stanzi threw for 3000 yards as a senior, and Tate was hurt.

Stanzi was a better QB his senior year. His defense wasn't as good though which is why all those close games Iowa won in 2009 turned to losses in 2010. Put Pat Angerer on that 2010 team and you have another BCS bowl team.
The 2010 defense was 7th in the nation in scoring D. That is statistically one of the greatest defenses in Iowa history.

No one can argue that Stanzi lost his mojo his senior year. His numbers were good but he didn't display the fire he had his junior year. He didn't even come close. He played scared, just like Ferentz.

You could argue that effect is seen through several areas of Iowa football. They seem to come in full of fire and excitement and leave with a business-like approach to the game. That's probably the single biggest reason Iowa Football hasn't been much fun lately. No fire. No passion. They play to be competitive but not to win.

There were 3 things that kept this from being a typical year for us. JVB, Greg Davis, and attrition on dline. JVB is gone for sure next year so that takes care of that one. The dline is coming around with a lot of young players (herby can supply height, weight, and star ranking on request). So that just leaves Davis. If we can get rid of him we will be right back to where we have always been. The problem is, where we have always been is Kirk doing everything he can to let the other team back door their way into a victory.

Well I cant beleive he ever made it here in the first place, Iowa is north of TX not east or west.

He made it here it just took him awhile because he thought the best way to get here was through L.A., Atlanta, Las Vegas, Raleigh,
San Francisco, Washington D.C., Denver, Chicago, Iowa City.

I figured it was because he always drove short of where he needed to go.

Its easy to be confused about his staying or leaving. People can't tell. Fact, he was seen driving west on I-80 but stopped after 3 yards and turned around.

edit - seriously =- I didn't read the previous threads.

Sure you didn't joke stealerer.

As someone who knows several "big time donors", I can say quite confidently that being a big time donor doesn't necessarily equate to inside information. Half the time they're like a freaking sewing circle. Whatever that is.

An internet forum without the internet.

It's pretty simple: Good QB = Good in football.

We had a bad one. Plain and simple. If a better one shows up, we will have a decent team.

Look at the NFL. Bad QBs = bad teams. Same in college. A&M might have the Heisman winner and is doing pretty well in the tough SEC. They struggled last year with a different QB in the b12.

Just sayin.
