Graduate Transfer Offensive Lineman

Cronk was previously mentioned as an Outland trophy candidate while at Indiana. Our offensive line just got a huge upgrade and added more depth. Actually I was surprised we took an O lineman but I’m not gonna cry about it either. This was a great get.

I thought OLine was definitely a position we should look at in the grad transfer market, I just didn’t know what kind of players would be out there. To me this is a home run signing by the staff.

Dline was another area people thought we might look, but really Golston, Nixon, Waggoner, Schulte, Shannon, VanValkenburg, Evans, and Lee is 8 guys. Not too mention incoming freshman Jones, Craig, Bruce, and Black that could all conceivably push for time.

Bare minimum its a great depth addition. The thought of adding a senior tackle with 40 games of starting experience in the Big Ten is pretty major.

I can get on board with an offensive line of Jackson, Linderbaum, Cronk, Kallenberger and...Britt? Schott?
I’m super high on Britt. I think another offseason with Doyle and another year removed from his ACL injury and he locks down a guard spot. I think he can get up to 300 this offseason.

LT - Jackson 6’6 / 320
LG - Britt 6’5 / 300
C - Linderbaum 6’3 / 290
RG - Kallenberger 6’5 / 295
RT - Cronk 6’5 / 325

Barnwart and Schott as the next guys. Think that could be a very good offensive line group.

I read several NFL draft analyses on him and they all mention him moving inside in the pros. Not sure where he plays at Iowa, but we could use an upgrade at guard.
On TOS an Indiana poster said that Indiana planned to move him inside to guard thus the reason he transferred. Basically speculating that he wants to continue to play tackle. Iowa has an opening at tackle with Wirfs moving on.

Indiana must have found two younger tackles they liked and wanted to move Cronk inside to guard.

As far as resentment from guys that get beat out that’s really the nature of competition. In this case Jack Plumb really hasn’t been able to put on the weight to be a legit option at tackle. Kallenberger will likely stay inside at guard.

.......or they are still very concerned about this ankle injury and if it will hold up. Could the previous injury still be a problem?

Indiana doesn't seem like they would be in a position to move a 4 year starting left tackle to guard. Seems impossible that they would have 2 tackles better than a potential Outland trophy candidate. I wonder if people got it backwards and he wants to move inside to get ready for the next level. More than likely it's just fans in renting reasons because they don't want to admit what he really left. Because iowa is way better.

He got hurt this year. If when he got hurt a younger player stepped up at tackle, would it make more sense to say well this guy performed very well with Cronk out here’s my LT for the next couple years or well Cronk’s coming back next year so you might need to try guard next year. Then the following year you can move back to tackle again. Seems like a lot of moving around.

If Britt is healthy my guess is he beats out Schott... Just my 2 cents of a guess though. But we look strong up front. QB is main question mark with the newby being in there.

How can a true competitor who loves competition be scared of working hard and competition?
