Grad Transfer is Matt Quarells from New Mexico

Looks like kid from New Mexico. Will be grad transfer with 2 years to play though. Not good numbers at NM but they run triple option as well as he was often injured. High school in St. Louis, same as McNutt. Was offered by Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Missouri. Was a track stud.

Even with only 180 yards and 1 TD at NM, that would make him the 2nd leading returning WR at Iowa. So yeah, we need WR help anyway we can get it.

Also some talk of a walk-on WR coming in from a D2 school that was highly productive. A kid from Iowa.

Speed...the next Damond Powell?

But he sounds like a kid who got into a lot of altercations at wrestling practice

That's 180 yards on just 11 catches. That's 16 yards per catch.

Yup, sounds like that deep threat that you try to throw to once or twice a game, maybe actually getting a TD once or twice a season. Aka Damon Powell but taller. Not complaining though. This will help.

Meanwhile MVB will continue to catch 5 to 10 balls a game in his possesion WR role and the TE's will catch another 5 balls per game.

I've seen him listed as anywhere from 6'1" to 6'3", in the 190s for weight. Decent original offer sheet and Kirk seems to desperately want him. Probably more than a one-trick pony like Powell was.

He must be smart. To be a graduate transfer he would have had to have graduated from NM in three years.

Just watched part of their bowl game. They run a shotgun triple option that looks like a wishbone. Davie was quoted as saying they wanted to throw the ball about 8 times per game. No wonder he left, even Iowa throws more than that!

Yep. The Lobos only averaged 107 yards of receiving last year. Hawks averaged 153 yards per game last year and 204 yards in 2015.

Hmm, not sure how to take your statement. Are you saying he most likely is smart or pointing out graduating from New Mexico!!? ;) Kidding of course.

I think Bob Davie is still the coach there. Remember him as the announcer for tv games. Wasn't a big fan.

eeeh, I thought Mark Jones and Bob Davie were solid. They practically did every Iowa game that '02 and '03 season. Really didn't have an issue with them.

Could have and should have used T. Smith more often in that role. Those guys are a utilization problem by coaches and it's usually not their fault that they don't have big numbers.
