Goofers Luving Themselves Some Weisman!

I looked around on their board, which is something ive never done. They seemed to have a lot more respect for us than I figured they would. Maybe part of that was from the beat down...I still cant figure out how more people dont see that we stopped the run because we wanted to work on the passing game though. 22 yards on only 5 attempts? Even if they DID stop our run(which they did not), thats still around 4 yards per attempt...Ill take it!

The big picture is that matters is that we stopped our running game. They didn't. I think if we don't commit to the passing game (which I definitely think was a good idea) I think the final score is whatever our oline and weisman wanted it to be.

When I first saw Mark Weisman run, I instantly thought of Mike Alstott. Many may be too young on here to appreciate the comparison. I guess it may have been the way he held onto the ball with both arms & plowing ahead and thru people. But, now he is running a little looser with a bit of shiftiness & wiggle. It's paying dividends for him as he is now reading blocks better & making cuts, cutting of defenders better for more yards. What a story & he's just fun to watch run. Nice job to that O-line!!
 
Totally agree...I feel we are on the right track. Im not sure what the issue is with the passing game. Well, i know what the issue is, but I dont know why. Other than JVB...I like the guy, I mean I REALLY like the guy, but hes not doing well this year. I think the recievers are getting better, but hes not for some reason.

Man, are we really to the point where we have to preface talking about Mike Alstott with "Many may be too young"? I just had to look up how long ago he retired.

Honestly, I think some of his "throwaways" were deliberate. Accomplishes clock-stoppage and allows staff to decide what set of plays to work on with each subsequent snap.

I DVR-watched second half again this morning (and finally deleted!), amazing more people didn't pick up on what we were doing in second half.

When Minny LB sort of "shouldered" JVB after one play, we ran Weisman for about 5 EFFORTLESS yards. Clear signal to Minny coaches: We aren't out to embarrass, but if you want to push, we can go back to what you need the most work on...and it will not be pretty...

The whole flea-flicker scenario shows what this staff knows that most of us don't: we HAVE the run game we HAVE the OL to excel in the passing game, we don't have the timing and comfort level to execute it well enough to achieve good "balance" yet. Minny decided to sell-out the run. We decided to prove that was a mistake.

People want to think KF just called off the dogs so they can bash him. Anyone who actually saw what they were doing knew it was to work on the passing game. People will always try to find something to complain about. I think most teams we play will agree that Weisman is a RB that they would like to have. Just glad he's in the Black & Gold.

I'm pretty sure America is aware of that. Anyone who's watched us play this year knows our passing game isn't up to speed and there is no balance to our offense.
 
I finally watched part of an Iowa game yesterday, as my wife only DVR'd the 2nd half. OL looks good. Vandy looks awful. Finally have a RB that hits a hole with some authority.

When did he retire? I don't want to look it up for fear of feeling old. I am going to guess 2005.
 
I think Iowa stopped running because Minnesota was run blitzing like crazy the second half. If Vandenberg and the receivers had coordinated better he could have had a huge day.

I too thought of Alstott. But I think Weisman is a little quicker.
 
He's kind of like a train. He doesn't accelerate too fast but once he gets going he's a locomotive. Actually, once he gets going he runs quite smooth. Just takes him a second or two to get up to full speed.

Agreed. We didn't abandon the running game. We simply quit running the ball and focused on the passing game because we definitely need the work on that aspect of the offense. The running game was shut down simply because rather than to run the ball at will the coaches believed it would be more beneficial to work on the execution in the passing game.
