Good look at what the Big Ten may resemble next season

We've come a long way when our worst case scenario (at least according to that writer) is an NIT appearance.

Oh, and Wisconsin is going to be in trouble if Brust is running the point.

Going to be best conference next season again. Looking who comes back and who comes in, Iowa will be improved but may not move up much. If Groce retains that Illinois roster he can compete for conference title.

Indiana, Minnesota, OSU, MSU, Michigan, Wisconsin and maybe Illinois will be on top half. Going to be a tough conference. The only given is Nebraska will be worst team but with top notch facilities and a coach much like Fran in Miles, they will compete soon.

I think MN could be that if TB is healthy and comes back. If he goes pro, along with Michigan's Burke, think Iowa no worse than 6th.

I think you can write Nebraska in at 12th...maybe even NW in at 11th. 5th through 10th could be separated by two games...or maybe 6th through 10th depending on who is back

I think you can put Penn State down there along with Nebraska and Northwestern. I know Frazier is good but he will not get much help. Illinois is not far from the scrap heap either if Brandon Paul bails for the NBA.

I think Iowa is going to be in the middle mixed in with Wisconsin, Purdue, and Minnesota. If Iowa can take care of their non conference slate next season they should be dancing.

Don't forget Leonard too. If Groce can keep them on roster and with his recruiting ability (he recruited Oden and Conley to OSU under Mata) he can have IL competing for conference title.

Iowa will be improved but may not show it in conference standings. Big Ten will be brutal next season, "dog eat dog".

thx for the comic book read. considering Iowa finished in a tie for 7th with a weak roster. this coming season with a roster of 12 i think a top half finish is attainable.
when you compare the losses of each team.

Oh, I thought Leonard declaring for the NBA was an after thought. But I guess it is not official yet.

I do not think the B1G will be any more brutal than it was this year, possibly even less brutal if more players from the top teams declare for the NBA draft.

A lot of people think Gessel and Woodbury will make an immediate impact. Its a huge jump from Iowa HS Bball to the B1G.

I think we are 2 years away from the dance.

two questions. why is it other treams will be stronger instatly with 4 star talent and yet Iowa gets 2 4*'s at the biggest area's of need and we have to wait 2 years before they can even play in the BT? and Iowa has a player that make the National Freshman team and can't even think they will be better?

Because not all 4* players are awesome out of the gate. I think getting one of them to be an immediate impact player will be mission accomplished.

They'll both play for a lot of reasons, lack of options being chief among them. How effective they are remains up to debate.

I think Illinois is a dark horse too with Groce. If he can get them to buy in that team is loaded with talent.

Omg, I had to read through this twice. I agree with herby!

With what Iowa has coming back along with the incoming recruiting class they should be able to compete next year for a tournament bid. This years team has raised the bar of expectations in my book, they have proved they can win in the B1G.

Because the talent level in Iowa HS bball. It's a tougher transition compared to the level of play in Chicago or New York HS Bball.

iowa will be better next yr. yet some need to temper their expectations. i expect the frosh to contribute but you cant expect them to come in and set the world on fire otherwise when they dont reach your standards you turn on them.

none of our recruits are the ability of harrison barnes but look at the bust calls on him and this is a guy averaging like 17 pts a game. if woodbury or gesell come in and struggle it wouldnt surprise me as it happens to other frosh. if they come in and dominate it would surprise me because this is less likely.

saying gesell was rated the same as trey burke so expect the same results is just asinine. they are different players from different classes. maybe if trey burke was coming out this yr he would be the #5 recruit in the nation (i dont know). maybe last yrs class was morew loaded than this yr.

these frosh will contribute every single one of the 5 (or six). but dont expect them to have the impact of a zeller or burke because those are the exceptions not the rule. hopefully each can do their best to take some pressure off the guys that will carry the team (marble and white).

is that so, then explain the players like Barnes, Collison, Hinrich, Paige and Lafrentz, there is a reason why they are in the top 100 and Woodbury in the top 50. it sure wasn't because how they sat on a bench twittling their thumbs, and for tha record. Gesell is from Nebraska, Clemmons is from Michigan, Meyer is from Georgia, and Ingram is from Indiana.
the they are just Iowa kids is getting old. unless you are saying only Roy Toy is the only coach capable of getting top talent out of Iowa, and Fran gets only dog crap players that don't belong in the BT

and how do you know Gesell is not underrated and may be better than Burke. Gesell played AAU ball in the shadows of Paige, Gesell was rated as high as the 10th best pg by some sites, it was after he signed wih Iowa he dropped to 15, Burke was never in the Top 100 til he signed with Michigan. Woodbury is / was rated the #7 center in the country by most services, and is rated the 4th best 7' in the class of 2012
these kids play all summer against the top players in the country
Woodbury got MVP in the NBA Top 100 camp over players like Nerlon Noel, Tarcsenski 5* rated kids with Noel being rated as a 1 n done player, that's some stiff competition. not a bunch of junk defense he faced in HS that there were alway 2 people on him when he didn't have the ball and 3 when he did, this is not a 180 by me on Woodbury. i finally saw some video on him and was very impressed and these were not HS vid's these were vid's from the NBA camps
