Give Gesell The Keys - QCTimes.com

Last season at times one could see the future of Iowa basketball under Fran's guidance. There were times the Big Ten announcers would mention that the Hawks were the best transition team in the B!G. There were many times after an opponents made basket that we had the ball downcourt before they had time to set up their defense. We beat them downcourt quite a few times after they scored.....Our D will be considerably better than last season with the addition of Adam Woodbury and Kyle Meyer, not to mention the defense skills of Clemmons and Ingram, who are considered defensive specialists. We will be able to implement the full court press if needed without fear of the opponent beating the press and scoring quickly because of the presence of Adam, Kyle and Olaseni. Our half court trap was very good at times both seasons, and will be much better this year.....I have a feeling we will substitute in waves, constantly having fresh horses in the race the entire game. As the team becomes conditioned to the pace of the game, the opposition will suffer like whipped dogs.....Fran and staff have a lot of talent to work with, and I am confident that by conference time we will be getting things coordinated very nicely.....We shall see.....:)

Well said Jack! We are back!

HaHaHa. Seems like Iowa fans have an obsession with Bo Ryan. Why don't you guys focus on actually making the NCAA tournament for once.

Mike Gesell? I give you George Marshall. Marshall has actually already been on campus and gone against great defensive players. If Jordan Taylor, one of the great pg's in the league in several years thinks Marshall is going to be better than him and Devin Harris, then that says a lot.

UW's Marshall gets high praise from peers

I can’t tell if you’re serious but this kid is the #20 prospect…. in the state of wisconsin.

If the # of recruiting stars mattered then we wouldn't have had 15 straight years of going to the NCAA tournament under our belts and Devin Harris wouldn't be making millions in the NBA.

You're "back"?!? What does that mean? When was Iowa ever seriously good? The Tom Davis years? He never won the conference title and you guys fired him. Are those the glory days?

We here at Hawkeye Nation welcome all fanbases willing to provide intelligence and factual arguments. The problem here is you have failed miserably at both.
Wisconsin has had 4/5* recruits for the past decade and are adding another with Dekker this year. Devin Harris was no slouch coming out of high school either; just Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin.

On the Tom Davis reference...all I can say is: Really? Please take a look at the history of Iowa Basketball. Iowa hasn't been the same since Tom Davis took over. Davis was a very good coach, but toward the end of his career when he lost out on Raef LaFrentz, it was over...the fans never forgave him for it. Since Davis was released, well, there is not a lot to speak of. There are things on paper that look nice, but in the end, Iowa steadily eroded to the nothingness they were prior to Fran becoming coach. It is a shame though because Iowa has been rated by ESPN as one of the top 25 basketball schools for its history until that point, Fran will restore the order, actually it has already begun.

To Bucky and the rest of the Wisconsin fans...Dekker better be better than advertised, if not...it is going to be a long year for you. Also, hope that Traevon Jackson is the answer at PG and not Marshall...if Marshall is going to be so good why was he redshirted and Jackson wasn't?

Why did Marshall redshirt last year? Maybe it had something to do with the fact that we had a senior 1st team All-American PG on our roster that averaged 38ppg?!? That sounds like a valid enough reason to me. He simply wasn't going to supplant one of the best players in the nation as a true freshman. He also needed to add strength.

So Iowa's glory years weren't under Tom Davis? Who the hell are you referring to then? Some coach that coached at Iowa over 25 friggin years ago? Funny, I don't remember Iowa ever being "national" program. Bo Ryan has already supplanted whatever Iowa has done. He's just the winningest coach in BIG history in terms of winning %. Yeah that includes Bobby Knight. Oh and maybe that he's NEVER missed the NCAA tournament and only 3 programs in the entire country have a longer consecurtive appearance streak in the NCAA than Wisconsin. I'm pretty sure we've arrived and it isn't a blip on the radar screen.

since when did taylor score 38 ppg? davis was a great coach but before him iowa had even better coaches...key there is the "es" it means it is plural (thought i should spell it out for a badger). if you dont know the great coaches in iowa bball history than you dont know college bball history...maybe you are too young and naive. i am 29 yrs old and know that iowa was a great bball school.

Evan Turner said Eric May would be a superstar in the Big Ten during May's freshman year (the same year Turner set the Big Ten on fire with his play before becoming a lottery pick). That prediction hasn't panned out, to say the least.

On top of that, Taylor always came off as a humble guy. I'm not surprised a guy like him would say the next guy will be better than him. He doesn't seem to like holding himself up as the gold standard, which is one reason why I liked watching him play so much.

In school history Iowa has been to 3 final fours and Wisconsin 2. Now maybe it's my fuzzy math but I ways thought 3>2. Maybe the badgers need to keep away from the wine cheese. Maybe this year Fran will pull back on the gas a little as an act of compassion just to give you guys the illusion that you have a chance to win. Two years from now it's going to be soooooooo fun to watch Uthoff light the badgers up. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Men's_Division_I_Final_Four_appearances_by_school#section_1

Most excellent, BigD.....

to be fair, May has been hurt the past 2 years.

Back in December I stated that he would be the point from day 1 and I got a load of sh!t. I will say again, he is the best true point I have ever seen and I have seen many. He will be the instrument that will make Frans system explode. Its going to be a fun ride!! Oh by the way, I stated that in the xmas tournament in Arizona in late December and I stand by what I said. The Arizona Republic stated that he was the best guard they had seen since Mike Bibby. Grand expectations will abound.
