GET YOU SOME GUS JOHNSON RIGHT HERE

I'll take these guys ahead of Gus any day of the week:

Vern L.
Sean McDonough
Dan Shulman

Vern was great but his best days are behind him. McDonough and Shulman are both very good. The three man booth that ESPN uses at Maui of McDonough, Bilas and Raffetry is my favorite announcing crew.

Gus Johnson, to me, is sorta like a new song you hear on the radio one day and it sounds AWESOME!! And for the first month or so, you can't get enough of it. By about the 200th time you hear it, though, you're getting tired of it. By the 500th time, you start hating it and asking yourself how you even liked it in the first place.

Gus Johnson is like that for me now.

Gus is very much like dolph. they have some high moments but overall trying to follow a game with them is very hard.to.do.

I agree with you about Dolph, but how is it hard to follow a game that you're watching on tv?

Having been around Sean McDonough a few times I can honestly say that guy was a first class D**K. And he was that way to everybody ... the crew ... the producer ... the coaches ... the fans ... everybody. It's been a couple years since I had the displeasure, and a buddy tells me he has mellowed, but to this day, I hate hearing him call a game due to his attitude.

Gus reminds me of Dickie V in that they both have that "On Air" personality, that is just not them when they are off mic. On mic, I prefer Gus, but off mic, Dickie V is a soft spoken gentle guy who will talk to anybody about anything ... and he will listen, as well. Gus is much more of an introvert in real life. Nothing wrong with that, just not what you would expect.

The first time I met Dick was very early one Saturday when we were setting up for a basketball game on ABC. As we carried cameras to the top here was an older, bald gentleman running on the court. We're talking 6 hours prior to game time. A little later, he comes over to us and starts talking to us. We all immediately recognized the face, but the face just did not fit our image. He even introduced himself, as if he needed to. I remember it well as it was right before Jimmy V passed away, and Dick was saying how he had called him the night before and things were not looking good. He told us to do a good job today as "Jimmy is going to be watching." Whether he did or not, who knows. But, Dick made us feel as if we were part of their inner circle, even if just for a few hours.

At least that is my perception from the times I have been around them.
