Gesell

Is simply not being used as he could be. The kid bails us out over and over again and turns down shot after shot. He needs to be a go to go more then he is. He never ceases to amaze me!

He's got to be more selfish offensively...especially when we go in a funk like the stretch to end the first half. I said in another thread that outside shooting is the wild card with this team and today proved it again. We get great looks in the half court...we just go cold for long stretches. This team plays defense and is multiple there, they rebound well, they hit the offensive glass well, they play well in transition...but we don't shoot the ball consistently. That's our weakness. In those situations, Gesell needs to get a few shots up or be more aggressive during the drought. His jumper is looking more and more solid and you can tell he's playing with a ton of confidence. He's going to be really good for the next two years.

He is the glueman on the team. Sometimes I think why isn't Marble taking this game over? Marble is the best player on the court in most games but just doesn't get it done. Then Gesell set up and wants it.

No I do not buy that argument...too many great players are successful from the get go. The kid shoots beautifully, gets to the rack and gets lots of open looks...Luv ya wundergrape...but he needs to bury shots now.

He is burying shots now. But, we're not going to mold our offense around him...yet.

He's also a point guard. His job is to set the table.

Well when nobody is putting any meat on the table, it's ok by me if he also feeds the group. Outside of MAYBE Ogelsby (not by today though), Gesell is our top outside threat. Right now, his jumper looks like he's locked in. He's got to get 10 shots up during his 27 minutes. I think he's just coming into his own and realizing, he's pretty damn good whether Aaron Craft or Keith Appling or Fraiser or whomever is guarding him. He's seeing the floor, recognizing the defense, and getting the ball where it needs to be. He passed up a few shots today...I think he needs to let it fly.

Both our highly recruited sophmores are coming into their own. Woody's showing confidence he hasn't shown in his early career as well. We have a good chance to be pretty good next year too.

Not saying we need to make him the go to guy...but when Marble is 2-9, Mike is the one that needs to step up. He's proven by his play he deserves more of the offense to go through him when our go to guy is struggling like today.

He is more adept at setting up guys for better shots, as proven with his 7 assists today. Also, he had only 2 turnovers. However, I would like to see him shoot every time he has a wide open look at a three. He passed up on a couple of them today.

he's showing progress every game, which is just fantastic

saw more drive and dish from him today -- that pass to white was devastating

I keep saying it, but he is going to shred teams next year

I can see why you wouldn't want to take a three, even if it's open, when the team isn't shooting with any consistency. I have no issue with passing up a good shot to find a better one (no clue if this happened when Mike passed up the open shot or not)

I agree on Gesell needing to be more selfish. He has gotten better defensively and better at taking care of the ball. The next step is for him to gain confidence as a shooter. His mid range jumper is a thing of beauty. He just doesn't have that killer instinct in him yet. He'll get there, but as for now, he is finally getting comfortable running the show setting up teammates and is doing it at a very high level. Like I said, the next step is him gaining confidence in his jumper and then lastly developing that killer instinct that Marble has shown from time to time.

One of next years go to guys. One of the players that impresses me is Uthoff on how well he handles the ball on the dribble. A little more strength and power over the next year equals NBA career.

He can create his own shot. I could see him being a Marble level talent if he gains strength.

Uthoff needs strength and aggression, maybe sent him to boot camp or something. Uthoff is too nice and soft, just like a marsh mellow. Okay who was thinking it...

He is the key to the team. Best on ball defender on the team. Controls the offense great. He pushes the break great. He can thread a pass in about anywhere. He can score. What isn't to like about him. He is a 30 min pg. I can't believe Fran keeps him off the court as long as he does at times.
