Good podcast, here are some things they said.

---

thinks CJB is staying, thinks Rudock has a higher chance to transfer.
throws out the idea that canzeri, who has graduated, could leave as a free agent.
the offensive players are really bought in on brian ferentz. "high degree of allegiance."
"hugely bright future in coaching."

morehouse's coaches hot seat: chris white, bobby kennedy, greg davis - he would make changes at all three
mentions LB as the weakest unit, even though lack of talent, maybe jim reid and levar woods on the hot seat.
defense in general is bad. some talk of phil parker.

suggests hiring some packers asst coach with iowa ties as co-OC with brian ferentz, with packer guy as playcaller.

talks about defense having same issues all year long, points to coaching.

talent disparity against tennessee was obvious.

kirk's last year? 2016 and 2015/16 are their answers.

over under on 2.5 coaching staff changes? they take the over

can kirk survive another half decade of 7 wins? nope.

first time they remember the QB shielded from media. includes christianson always coming out, even after playing poorly.

over under, kirk two years at iowa? push and under.

will kirk's legacy be diminished? minimal, depending on how long it goes.

Rudock ain't gonna transfer. He's gonna stay or graduate in May and go to med school.

Saying Rudock might transfer betrays stupidity on such an epic scale that it invalidates everything else that was said.

Thanks for posting this. Wouldn't Rudock use up his eligibility if he transferred? The transfer rules are a little muddy to me.

I feel that the negative aspects of his legacy is a big part of how the program got to where it's at. He's been burnt recruiting good athletes with characters issues and out of state players not wanting to ride the pine for 3 years and develop, so they've stopped bringing those kids in and given lesser talent kids that are role model students schollies.
Since the rhabdo thing we aren't the " bullies of the big ten anymore" which could be a combination of backing off in the weight room by the staff and/or the kids not putting the extra work in. For Iowa to be successful we have to recruit nationally, that's scheme and playing time, or taking chances on kids. Our scheme and playing time won't bring kids in from Texas and Florida anymore and I think Kirk would rather roll the dice with good kids than have a rape or drug scandal be the end of his career.

I thought the same thing... How out of touch are they that they would consider that? CJBs father openly said CJ was going to consider his options pretty much. And Rudock came to Iowa for the med school they offer much more so then the playing football aspect of things. To think Rudock has the higher chance of leaving is nuts. Rudock knows he's going to be a doctor in 5 years not a pro football player. And Iowa is as good a place to learn how to do that as any. CJB wants to maximize what time he has to play football and if he don't think he can do that at Iowa he's as good as gone. Those guys didn't really touch on that at all. So either those guys really have info that we don't (they had no access to either qb after bowl game) or they are grasping at straws to make news much like Marty Tirrell... (naw nevermind they can't be that bad if they tried)

You know getting into medical school is hard? Lots of kids go to college with the goal of getting into medical school. But most won't get the grades and/or MCAT score necessary to be accepted.

We have no idea if medical school is still in Jake's plans or feasible. Also, transferring to another school to play his 5th year doesn't mean he can't still go to medical school. He would just need to make sure his credits transfer/line up. I could be wrong, but I don't think it is any easier to get into Iowa medical school simply because you went to Iowa for undergrad.

Jake, if he transferred, could be a free agent like Sokol was. He would be a 5th year that graduated and could choose any program in the country that needed a QB. Not a bad gig, if you think you've been beaten out, and would like to play 1 more year football.

I know somebody trying to get into med school. He's done interviews at 4-5 schools. Based on sheer numbers alone, he's 50/50 at Iowa because the school takes more Iowans. About 10-15% chance of acceptance at out-of-state schools.

Here's a link to Jake's player profile.

Still indicates he's microbiology/pre-med major and earned All-B1G academic honors last year. It's safe to assume he is still planning to be a doctor and has the grades to do so.

I would say they erred in saying Rudock is more likely to leave, but just the concept that he might is a new one. These guys don't just talk out of their *****.

You can be academic all-big 10 with a 3.3 GPA or so. Academic All-BIG doesn't translate to medical school necessarily. Neither are good grades enough. He would still need to score very high on MCAT standardized test scores.

Starting at QB in the Big 10 and getting into a medical school would be a heck of a feat. If that is his plan, I hope he accomplishes it.

Did they happen to comment or speculate about Barta's future? Who else thinks there could be a slight chance of him leaving?

I believe they thought he'd get fired if we average something like 62k or 63k next year. I would imagine you'd fire the AD as a first step to fire the coach, and allow the new AD to hire the new coach.

And they said Mason is in total lockstep with Barta on field hockey, so that problem is unlikely to get Barta fired. The football attendance might.

Just because Rudock can transfer doesn't mean he is more apt to then CJB.... Which is what they flat out said. For Rudock to transfer that would mean that the coaches have flipped to CJB totally. Don't think we know if that's the case and I doubt it. The coaches will have the same song and dance of having them competing for it this spring and summer so they don't have to stick their neck out either way yet. The coaches want them both back regardless for depth. So they don't want to **** either one of em off. I suppose that uncertainty could backfire for the team and they both leave... Wouldn't that just be sad... But surely that is highly unlikely. The most likely thing to happen is CJ doesn't trust the staff after the totality of the year and he's looking around. I think there is a better chance they both come back as opposed to just JR leaving.

Yeah I know it's hard. I have several doctors in my family.

if Rudock is accepted to med school he should ditch football and get on with it.
