Garza and Nunge next year

Conner is playing the point. Never dealt with a "daddy coach" before?
Unless Connor feels he has NBA potential I think he probably will redshirt. Except for the vanity of playing your freshman year or making money at the next level, it would be silly for a guy not to want five years of college instead of four. Fran has enough money and influence to set up his son whatever he decides to do at the next level as long as he keeps his nose clean. Look at Ferentz two sons and son-in-law. Of course one of the Ferentz kids started his freshman year, while the other one redshirted when he got picked up for drunk driving.

Uthoff led the B1G in blocks last season but no one would accuse him of being a rim protector. Woody blocked almost no one and he was a rim protector.
How would anyone consider Woody a rim protector? He was a good post defender his SR season but a rim protector is someone that blocks or alters shots.

We don't have the depth at guard for Conner to redshirt.

Well you have at least 4 people on here telling you you don't need to block shots to be a rim protector. I think Woody was a really good rim protector and he didn't block shots.

I searched rim protector and here is a blurb I found from an article:

"If you could pick one NBA player to guard the basket on the last play of the NBA Finals, who would it be? In other words, who’s the best rim protector in the world?

We’re not necessarily talking about who’s the best pure shot-blocker. There’s a bit more to being a rim protector than just blocking shots. Great defenders move opponents out of position, deny post entries, and prevent shots from even happening without getting “shot-blocking” recognition."

You drive in against a 7' 1", 240 lb. dude with his hands high in the air and it's imposing and intimidating to most players, even if the really tall guy can't block shots well. That's how he was a rim protector.

Tomato, Potato, There's probably no convincing someone that thinks one needs to be a shot blocker to be a rim protector.. Just is what it is. It's just an opinion. I bet way more think Woody could be considered one then not. But it don't surprise me that some don't.

I'd consider Olaseni a rim protector. My definition of a rim protector is a guy that blocks and alters shots around the rim, blocks shots from the help side, erases mistakes when his perimeter teammate gets beat on the bounce, etc. I have a different definition, obviously.

@RobHowe any thoughts? I know you're not one for speculation, but is it a possibility that CM decides to stick with baseball only at Iowa?

I recall you did an article a while back, but I couldn't find it.
I think I remember reading his primary focus is whichever sport he gets a scholarship to play while not ruling out two-sport participation.

???

Might depend how this baseball season goes for him on top of that? If he tears it up and it's the last thing he's doing as a HS senior sometimes that last taste in your mouth will get favored more. But yeah the scholly count was the issue that'd came up after Jones was given another year. I have a feeling somebody is going to transfer though. I don't know who it just feels like with the log jam of depth they have it's bound to happen.

I don't think Jones situation really effects all this. At this point I think everyone is assuming he won't be at Iowa next season, so his extra year of eligibility is kind of a mute point.

The real issue is we've signed 3 players and only graduate 2, including Jones. We will most likely see a transfer or two, if not CM may walk-on or stick to baseball only, so it should sort itself out.

Yeah there's cases to be made for any handful of the guys that'd want to maybe play more to look somewhere else. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. The only thing that'd probably surprise me is if everyone that's currently there and signed for next yr actually all do come.
