Gary Barta Feels Fortunate Kirk Ferentz is Iowa’s Coach

I'm on the pay board. There is literally no content that is posted there that isn't posted on the free section and the post count per thread is like 0-2 posts.
I did the one year subscription when they first started it and rob posted way more on the pay board at the time. I figured it was still the same.

Iowa is the place to go if you want to be a head coach. You can be mediocre at your job and never be worried about losing it with Gary as your boss.
Ferentz, all-time winningest Iowa football coach; Brands, multiple ntnl championships, Bluder, consistently places Iowa in NCAA tourney; Heller, a baseball coaching genius with results....mediocre? The greatest in the game? Nah. Mediocre? Please.

I'm pretty sure they could find a way if they only win 5 games.

Not so sure. A couple of assistants would get fired and Barta would come out and say something like "we're really disappointed and we have higher expectations for Iowa basketball than that", but Fran would likely survive.

But we're gonna win more than that so it's moot.

Iowa has won 17 regular season or tournament championships since 2001. Not great, but not horrible. All schools consider tournament championships as championships and hang banners to celebrate them.

Since 2001, Titles in Football; baseball; basketball; softball; field hockey; track; women's basketball; wrestling and gymnastics, I believe.

The frequency of the titles has gone down since Barta become AD, but, to be fair, the Big Ten has expanded from 10 to 14 teams. Nebraska and Maryland are particularly good in several minor sports outside of football and basketball.

I think a fair expectation with 14 teams is that Iowa wins 1 or 2 titles a year.

You can check the exact results by year at BigTen.org.

If I'm reading these links correctly, Iowa has only won 2 conference championships in the last 5 years...last years baseball tournament, and 2015 wrestling. If true, thats just horrible.

Your eyesite is exellent...

This is the funniest thing in the article:

Lol, Farta.

So beers are going to be $4 per 12 oz instead of $8??

Yeah I'm sure he's just going to say, "we don't need to make money off of this, let's just let the vendor keep it." What a dip shit.
He's saying the reason that would do it would be for better fan experience, not more money. I guarandamntee you though that they won't pass up the opportunity to make more dough

I find him saying it would be mainly based on a potentially better fan experience to be disingenuous. They're all doing it for the money in the arms race that is major college football.

That's a fair point, and I would agree. That sentence stood out to me as well when he said it. If it was all about money though wouldn't they have done it already? I'm sure there's some concern about how booze would affect the experiences of non drinking fans

I would say his handling of the Griesbaum incident makes it impossible for Gutless Gary to land another P5 job. That was his total failure of "financial management, P/R and compliance". It also drives me nuts that some Iowa fans give Gutless Gary credit for the financial situation of the Iowa Athletic Department. Like it wasn't profitable before he got here. Get a clue.

This x100, how you pay out $6 mil+ in a lawsuit and keep any job in baffling. Even if regents and UI administration think he was innocent or compliant, you shouldn’t hold that job if you screw up so bad.

IMO beer sales in Kinnick would not only increase revenue for the school, but it would help alleviate the glut of people all trying to cram into the stadium right before kickoff. Most people tailgate until the very last minute to finish their beers....imagine if you could get into the stadium 45 minutes early and buy a beer and get to your seat.

Maybe I'm just a drunk

Like he said, Iowa won't be the first but it won't be the last. It will try to blend in with the movement so as not to stand out, instead being viewed as going along with the Jones'.

The schools doing it now, like Oklahoma State, are standing out because it's at the beginning of the movement. Blending in alleviates some of the blowback that is sure to come from groups that oppose it.

Makes sense, it would be more accepted if everyone else is doing it. I'm ready for beer this season though :)
