Gary Barta Feels Fortunate Kirk Ferentz is Iowa’s Coach

Iowa has won 17 regular season or tournament championships since 2001. Not great, but not horrible. All schools consider tournament championships as championships and hang banners to celebrate them.

Since 2001, Titles in Football; baseball; basketball; softball; field hockey; track; women's basketball; wrestling and gymnastics, I believe.

The frequency of the titles has gone down since Barta become AD, but, to be fair, the Big Ten has expanded from 10 to 14 teams. Nebraska and Maryland are particularly good in several minor sports outside of football and basketball.

I think a fair expectation with 14 teams is that Iowa wins 1 or 2 titles a year.

You can check the exact results by year at BigTen.org.

Iowa is the place to go if you want to be a head coach. You can be mediocre at your job and never be worried about losing it with Gary as your boss.

If Fran goes 16-17 this year, watch what happens. HE GONE.

Iowa's standards may be lower, but I do think you have to win consistently, which is exactly what Ferentz and Bluder (and Brands) have done. The baseball coach is doing that now as well.

Completely incorrect. There is the regular season championship and the tournament championship, just like in basketball. The tourney winner gets the auto bid to the NCAA.

Yes, the baseball tournament title is a championship. You can check the Big Ten website: BigTen.org.

I'm no Barta fan, but come on
You're the one who's completely incorrect.

Nebraska is the 2017 baseball B1G champion.

Here it is straight from the horse's mouth. It's the last row, third column. Nebraska is the B1G champion, Iowa won the tournament. It's the same thing as basketball (men's and women's), softball, tennis, hockey, etc.

No different than basketball...Purdue won the B1G championship and Michigan won the conference tournament. two totally different things (check out what the banner hanging in Purdue’s gym says). Look at the asterisks and footnotes if you need an explanation. Here's the 2017 baseball standings, again from the Big Ten itself. Nebraska won the conference championship and Iowa is in 4th.

Press release from the B1G saying Nebraska is the conference champ.

Here's Wikipedia's page if you believe in that sort of thing, I bet you're going to tell me that there's a conspiracy on that page singling out Iowa, huh?

I'm fine with being corrected, I get stuff wrong all the time...but if you're going to be a cunt when you correct someone at least make sure you're right.

I'm pretty sure they could find a way if they only win 5 games.
The trouble is who the hell would come here to this tire fireish program if they tanked again? We’d be courting the Mike Rileys of the basketball world. Speeding up the water circling the toilet is all it’d accomplish.

I bet Steve Forbes might be persuadable. There's always that coach at UNMSt that coached at Kirkwood, as well.

Financial management, P/R, and compliance are the more important measures of success for a P5 AD. Reasonable winning in revenue sports...goes a long way there.

I think a lot of programs would be happy to hire Barta....after they've signed the coaches contracts that is.
I would say his handling of the Griesbaum incident makes it impossible for Gutless Gary to land another P5 job. That was his total failure of "financial management, P/R and compliance". It also drives me nuts that some Iowa fans give Gutless Gary credit for the financial situation of the Iowa Athletic Department. Like it wasn't profitable before he got here. Get a clue.

All Barta needs is to do is avoid a major scandal and for FM not duplicate what happened last year. Other than that he is probably safe for the foreseeable future.

Well he has had a major scandal and the U is still paying out, and FM has not had an outstanding season yet......team looks good and then fades, this year they just never bothered with the looking good part. So why does Barta still have a job?

Let me answer a question with a question. Do you think he is going anywhere, anytime soon?

I doubt he reads it. He spends his time on the pay board now.
I'm on the pay board. There is literally no content that is posted there that isn't posted on the free section and the post count per thread is like 0-2 posts.

I like Barta's quote about having patience in the North End Zone, so the 15 minute wait for the restroom and 25 for concessions is going to be worse?
