Gameday around Kinnick for Kids

I was wondering if anyone had any information or suggestions for activities around Kinnick stadium before the game for kids. I'm bringing my daughters (2 first graders and a kindergartener) to their first Iowa game. They've been watching with me on TV since birth and I've taken them to preseason Bears games the last 3 years, which they've had no problem handling. They're very excited.

We are taking the Hawkeye express train to the game. Other than the players walking into the stadium 1-1/2 hours before the game and the band warming up in the Rec building, are there any other suggestions for things to do before the game around Kinnick with the kids? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

In my professional opinion, I wouldnt bring young kids to this game. Fans get extremely crazy when the game is ugly. Cussing and yelling. This game should be very ugly.

Also, this is going to be the first one so people are going to be amped up. Sounds like he is already taking them anyway so a moot point. Actually, Barta and Mason successfully killed all the tailgating atmosphere so it's pretty tame. As far as I know, there are no kid's activities. You could always bring a bag set. There is some music being played in the S concourse.

It's great that you are bringing the kids to a Hawks game. Both the train ride and watching the band warm up will take all of your time until kickoff and should be good for the kids. I also wouldn't worry about cussing and fans acting out of line. Nearly all the fans are great around kids. If someone gets out of line tell them to shut their big yapper. Say it to their face. Most fans have no patience for idiots.
Have a good time and remember it is going to be fairly warm. Sun glasses and hats will be mandatory. Go Hawks!

Krause Family Plaza will open at 8:15 a.m. and will feature several new activities for fans this season. David Zollo and The Body Electric, the first live band of the season to perform in Krause Family Plaza, will perform from 8:20 - 9 a.m. and again from 10 - 11:15 a.m. The Kids Zone in Krause Family Plaza will feature an inflatable bounce house, temporary tattoos, a prize wheel, face painting, and more. There will also be several photo opportunities for fans, including an inflatable Herky, Swarm backdrop, and more. Be a part of Hawk Walk on Saturday, as the team will walk through Krause Family Plaza (outside Gate A), from Melrose Avenue into the stadium at 9 a.m. Fans are encouraged to start lining up 15-20 minutes prior to cheer them on!

The team arrives 2 hours before kickoff

Also take into consideration if you are bringing them, that temperatures are predicted to be around 90 degrees. Sunscreen and water.

They allow you to take in one bottle of water per person. Freeze it before arriving and share,it will thaw out. A lot of kids don't make it thru these early, hot games don't get mad if you have to leave early. Have Fun. Go Hawks

In your professional opinion? Couldn't have been more wrong. Stick to your day job, if you have one.

Kid's atmosphere was great. We took the Hawkeye Express in to the game. After the Hawk Walk, there was kids face paint, Hawkeye tattoos, a bouncy house, a football throw game, ice cream, Hawkeye gear at the Hawk Shop, the marching band warming up, etc. We didn't have enough time for everything. It's a shame to come on to a Hawkeye website and get tainted biatching like this. If you don't know or have an ax to grind, don't reply!

We take our kids to most of the games (not night games). Remember that you might be used to everything that goes with a football atmosphere but it will be entirely new to them. They will probably be so absorbed in taking in the sights (the band, the tailgating, the flags, the music, the food, etc) that they won't need to "do" anything in particular to be entertained.

One suggestion is to be careful in front of Game Day Iowa's tent. They have some pretty vulgar tshirts on display, facing the street. Ron basically told me to F off when I mentioned they could be placed a bit better for a family atmosphere. Haven't been in his store since.
