He’s one of the few guys who at least competed and played hard on defense. He might have blown an assignment or two but I like this kid.I probably should have mentioned CJ Fredrick shooting the ball well again in my Game Report. He's pretty pure on that end. He did have some issues on defense like pretty much everybody on the roster.
I don't think Iowa is as bad as it looked last night, and DePaul shot better than it will most nights.
I'm concerned, Rob. We were completely unprepared for DePaul's slightly above average speed and athleticism because we don't practice against it. We looked several steps slow on both ends all evening. That's a lot deeper issue than a hot shooting night. And we will see teams much more athletic than DePaul.I probably should have mentioned CJ Fredrick shooting the ball well again in my Game Report. He's pretty pure on that end. That tends to happen against bad defense. Opponents don't just get lucky against us.
I really think that DePaul team is an NCAA team. I’ve watched some Big East teams and they will win games in that league.
Iowa played horrible, DePaul shot really well, it sounds like Wieskamp might have been hurt. It was a stinker game.
With that said it could still very well be a preview of what’s to come for this Iowa team.
I could buy into that more if Iowa lost a close, competitive game. You could say "they just made shots" or "Depaul is/was better than we thought". But Iowa was thoroughly dominated. I was exxaggerating with the Globetrotterrs/ Washington Generals comparison, but Depaul really could do what they wanted. In retrospect, I probably overreacted to that loss, it was just an eye opener where Iowa's flaws exist.

DePaul is absolutely going to make the NCAA tournament. It was still a pathetic performance by Iowa though.
It's not a huge deal to have a blow out at home against a tournament team. It's just really scary when it's the first one.
I have to agree. I think Iowa is in for some beat downs...especially on the road.
With that being said...I believe there is a glimmer of hope. I would take Nunge, Kreiner, and Pemsl and turn them into the Hansen Triplets (I know they were twins in Slapshot)...but I would turn them into physical thugs. You have 15 fouls to give and I'd use all of them.
You have Toussaint, and Connor who could be very physical guards...especially if Connor wears his helmet.
Fran needs to look at this team and change the way they play and play to what are now strengths...our bigs are not shrinking violets any more...they can play a different game. Take a page out of Michigan States playbook. Every time Iowa has come out shooting and running and playing uptempo and having success...they ugly the game up. We need to learn to ugly up the game.
The minute DePaul came out and hit a few threes...I'd start checking them in the boards, crosscheck them as they are coming across the lane...run through their picks...elbows up. Let's see how many threes they make with bruised ribs.
You keep Wieskamp, Garza, Frederick, and Bohannon clean and firing threes...and everyone else becomes a thug.
If it was my team...the other team better be really good at shooting free throws...because we are going to use everyone one of our fouls in the paint.
Central Michigan leads DePaul in Chicago 35-20 with 8:00 or so left in 1st half.
