funny thought

So I was sitting here, thinking about the up comng season. That led me to wondering how much fun it will be to watch Coker pound the rock. That led me to thinking about his running style. That reminded me of when in the Insight he butt planted that kid. That kid was like "who dat who dare". If I remember right he drilled him in his upper chest. Anyway so I got to thinking, if he gets a little lower (6-8 inches), how far does that kid go back before his azz hits the ground??
I cant wait to watch him run this year.

Coker likes to run people over, he has even said that. If he lowers the boom just a bit, I wonder if that kid in the Insight would look more like deer meets car. He knocked him back aways anyway. Should be fun watching him run this year knowing he is #1 and with yet another offseason behind him.

Funny post. The thing I love about Coker is that he always falls forward and often pushes the pile. Obviously, his running style was a little upright, that supposedly is much improved, but when he got in traffic most of time he was lowering his center of gravity and pounding people. He finished his runs and for a young back with limited college experience, pretty damn impressive.

Those extra yards at the end of runs are huge. When the oline gets people in motion, even on plays where the push isn't great, he's getting positive yards and in some cases much more than a smaller back would get.

I also think Johnson shows he belongs in the Big 10. I really feel he will be ahead of the incoming freshmen. He will be a great compliment to the power running game...small/or at least short, shifty, with surprising speed. He can hide behind the big uglies and make some things happen. He's now had two years in the program...he should be ready and his quickness should be back. Remember, this kid was highly touted before he got hurt.

You know, I was sitting here thinking pretty much the same thing. That got me to wondering whether he had seen this web site, CokerPace.com. And that got me to thinking if he hadn't, how cool would it be for some person in the media to download to their phone or something and during press day go up and show it to Marcus, then get a video of his reaction.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool.

I think/hope you are right about this. I'm optimistic about him, anyway.

On 1620 the Zone, an Omaha radio station, Damon Benning (ex NE RB) was commenting on Coker. I believe the phrase he used was, "it was frustrating to watch Coker in the Insight Bowl running with his head down".

Damon is a smart guy. On the other hand, I was surprised to hear that about a RB that ran over 200 yards. I guess we will see this year who is right.

Oh yeah...I remember Damon playing in the NFL...wait maybe not. I think they should take away Coker's trophy.

My whole thought is from a leverage stand point, he will need it for blocking anyway. If he would have caught that kid right under the chest with his pads, I bet that kid would have been air born. I think he just knew he could run him over and keep going. Problem with that is Missery is not the B10. He seems to get low enough in the end of a run, and so far has been right when selecting which ones he can run over. Like I said it will be interesting to watch him after this off season.

I dont think he had his head down to far when he was busting off 40 yarders. :)

IIRC Greene ran more upright than I would have liked to have seen against Ball State in 2005 ... as it turned out, he definitely learned how to run lower. I expect the same progress to be made by Coker.

And YES ... I'm excited to see what Coker will be able to do running behind our line too!
