Fran strategy really lacks at end of games

The normal motion offense was working so well. It goes stale when when we hold it to burn clock and everybody in the building knows it's going to Jok.

BB and FB together...we have to have the worst in game coaching combo in the NCAA...really bad...don't win many with coaching or tactics...

Nothing new Same ol song and dance! His end game managment style has always been a huge problem.

Not a knock on Fran but I honestly thought tonight about how this team would perform under the likes of a really really really good coach. This team has some young talented kids playing and has the potentially to be really good,,

I love Fran but the thread title is 100% right. I get that he believes in his guys but with this young of a team and Jok out you gotta call a timeout. That game should have never gone to OT.

Fran has a young team. If anything...even when Jok fouled out...even more so. They need guidance. Even his most experienced teams laid eggs at the end of games. I just don't get why he does not try to draw something up for them?.

This has been a continual problem with Fran's teams his entire tenure, young or not.

I love Fran.. but his record in these situations speak for itself.

Just think of the ISU game the last couple years.

C'mon coach get it ********* figured out.

It's ridiculous

Number of posters have determined that Fran is not a good coach at the end of games. Would love to see some data on how many games we have won/lost in the last few minutes when the score was very close, especially how many we lost when we had a lead going into the last few minutes. I believe in data, not general statements in the aftermath of a really good basketball game that we lost. Any takers?

With a young team, time outs at the end of the game to set plays, get everybody on the same page, calm the guys down, would be useful. Especially on the road. That aside, this is a fun team to watch play. For a bunch of freshmen, they don't play afraid - but sometimes they need to play a little smarter - that's where a timeout might help, to remind them of the game situation.

This. Plus when it's clear Jok is dead tired, you can even use a timeout to give him a quick break.

I have always thought that the team would be served much better if Fran could develop some sort of "non-anxious presence" to share with the team at the end of close games. His agitation, impatience, anxiety, uncertainty, fear, panic, confusion all seems to be projected upon the players, who are themselves, anxious and uncertain and afraid.

A "non-anxious presence" does wonders for people or groups who are confused...whether it is in the emergency room, in military combat, times of death and suffering, or sports competition...a leader who can genuinely project and share this non-anxious way of experiencing life is a great help. A calm and confident leader is needed....not crazy Fran ready to get the next technical foul...

So often the teams listen to him during timeouts and go off doing panic-laden, crazy things...

Rather than this "non-anxious-confident" leader...Fran does the opposite to the team far too often...the results are self evident....predictable and legion.

My two cents...

OP, using Fran and strategy in the same sentence is not very kind to the word strategy. Fran never has and never will have a "strategy"....get a damn PG in here that can do a myriad of things and then maybe Fran can talk strategy, until then we rely on crappy plans that never work

I don't blame Fran for not taking late TO's - if anything I blame 1.scheme 2. line up and 3. execution. All of which fall on him - but IMO - you can call plays from the sidelines in games and TO's at the end are more to the advantage of the defense to get matched up
