Fran and Mediacom

I have spent literally hours trying to get them to listen to reason and reward their loyal customers. Talked to a different person every time and got a different quote every time. Finally I called the Loyalty Dept. and told them I and my son have had Mediacom for five years and my brother who moved from Seattle has had Mediacom for three years, and I was having difficulty understanding how new customers can get all three services for $99 plus taxes and all the other little gems they pile on, and those you have had Mediacom for years have an increase every year or two, and have to pay an enormous fee to cancel even after returning all the equipment before the due date for such a project.....

I am trapped by my Walnut trees to the South of my property and cannot get Direct TV or Dish. I have heard that Comcast, which has almost the same reputation as Mediacom is coming to DM. I hope they do so I can try them for a year, cancel if I choose and go back to Mediacom as a new customer. If one could do without Mediacom in the Summer, after so many months you will be considered a new customer and get the new rates.....

Jack I got to a point with MediaScum that I had a tree service come out to trim some tree limbs to my SW so I could get a line-of-sight with the satellite. IMO it's just a matter of a few years before Dish, DirectTV and cable providers get bought or do dome some major revamping and reduce prices. The Smart TV's now can connect to WiFi/Direct with your internet and get a ton of free programming along with Netflix for $9 a month, Amazon Prime. Right now you don't get the sports packages or live programming (I don't think) but it's right around the corner.

you need to get a hold of Dishcity because dish network can be pointed in a different direction. It is not as strong of a signal but i have had little to no problems. I had more problems with cable then i have with dish. It is worth a try.

I tried Dish the year before and they couldn't get a signal either. The installer even called for a specialist to check it out, but no dice. When I decided to try Direct TV the next year, I asked the neighbor directly South if I could put the satellite dish on the property line beyond the trees and he said, of course. He is a good neighbor. He used to work for Rolls Royce and repairs my car for half the price it would usually be. The installer said it had to be on my property not on the line. I told him that it was my property, and he couldn't het a signal because the branches extended too far, plus the neighbor had a couple of trees, not as tall as mine but also prevented the signal.....

It's Mediacom.....

I didn't know that, and will be watching for them to get the sports packages because like many others, I have to have the Hawks. BUt that is useful information. We have Samsung tvs that can connect wirelessly to the internet, so it would work. Thanks.....

Intimidator is correct. Once you set it up with Direct TV, the installation is usually simple and the installers are professional and friendly. One thing that makes it easier is to know exactly what package you want and tell them that immediately. You want this particular package with no changes unless they can give you the same package for less money. Be firm about that and it will go much easier. Beware of using a company called Direct Star, it looks like an official Direct TV site, but they wiill try to sell you a home security system and other things besides and once you the package up, they transfer you to another person to finalize the transaction and the price mysteriously goes uo. They can't believe someone quoted you the lower price. I would much rather have Direct for the reasons Intimadator mentioned.....

Leaving Mediacom can be easy if you are at the end of your contract or they wiil charge you a penalty of up to $200 dollars. You must give them at least 7 days notice. I finally got to the Loyalty Department and told them I had already set up the Direct TV installation and they were very nice and helpful. Their number is: 1 877 7596137.....

I have learned to survive with Mediacom, but like you wish I could get Direct TV, but the trees prevent it.....

Thanks Jack! And for the record I would never cut down a healthy tree unless there was risk to my home, etc. Of course if our cottonwood ever comes down it's going to destroy at least 1 house...2 if it goes the wrong way.

Has this gone into effect for DirectTV customers yet.

Here's DirecTV's 2014 Planned Rate Hikesby Karl Bode 08:23AM Tuesday Dec 24 2013
Back in September DirecTV CEO Michael White stated that the company would be raising rates on users in 2014, though he failed to elaborate on exactly what those price hikes would entail. Now courtesy of the folks over at theSatellite Guy forums it looks like we have a first glimpse at the hikes. According to the leak, most of the company's base TV packages will be increased anywhere from $2 to $5. The leaked pricing sheet doesn't include any possible equipment rental hikes or other new or larger fees DirecTV might be considering for the new year.

I know what you mean, Windsor, I have a Catalpa growing right next to the house. Been growing for years, and the basement is fine. I just have to trim the branches that hang over the house. The blasted squirrels would jump on the roof and eat their way through the screens. When I closed the windows, one of them tried to eat through the wood trim to get in......

You leave a lot of nuts laying around or are they just trying to get at you...

It's been a vicious war for many years. They sit on the bushes by my son's window and watch him. They stare right at him all year round.....

I have several bear traps scattered around the yard buried under the snow and leaves. The Easter Egg Hunt will be really interesting.....

While I'm no fan of Mediacom, the two worst and most hated cable companies (as voted in poll after poll) in the US are Time-Warner and Comcast.... and guess who's merging?

Living in the northeast I have had Comcast for 5 years and TWC for 1 year. I don't know why Comcast gets such a bad rap. They are by far the best cable service I have ever had. They have unlimited channel options and the fastest Internet speeds in the country. My experience with their customer service has been not only great but outstanfing. Then we were forced to switch to TWC after moving. They are horrible. Night and day difference. Thank god Comcast is buying out TWC because TWC is the only cable company in our area.

How much did Comcast pay you for this post? :)
