Fran and Mediacom

Jack the solution is simple. Snip the tie to cable and dishes. And get a roku. You can then pay $18 for netflix and huluplus. Purchase an antenna to get local stations. I can watch any sports I want on my computer. You already are paying for internet access.

This exactly. Our DirecTV expires tomorrow at midnight and this will be our setup. Plus it gives me an excuse to hit the local watering hole if I want to watch a game other than over the internet!

Wife just put one of these in the bedroom. Haven't looked at it much yet other than Netflix. Gonna have to explore that little thing some more.

A friend of mine had the same problem with trees, so he just buried a cable underground past the trees and found a sunny spot for his satellite dish. His wife "landscaped" around it so it doesn't stand out and actually kinda blends in.

A little extra work, but problem solved.

I moved from Davenport to Washington while I had mediacom. I was past the 1 year 3 services for $100 deal, but they gave me another discount for bad service. Was paying like $120. I called to transfer service and they said the bill would be $165. For the same transferred service? "We don't support this price in your new area". ?????????????????????? What? You are still the same company. Now I just transfer back and forth from dish to direct tv every 2 years

This. It will work. You will also develop a sense of pride not writing a check to mediacom every month

They are the worst customer service company I have ever delt with. I have talked to them over and over. They just don't care. I Adv. with them spend thousands every year ( Because it works ) and I have their phone TV & Internet at work. But cant watch my own comrcials at home because I have Direct TV I Hate dealing with them

Former mediacom cable customer (still have their internet...changing once the contract is up), current DirecTV customer. It amazes me every time I call up DirecTV about something. They were billing me for something I didn't agree to in the original contract as part of a promo that turned permanent. I was upset about it, called them up, they removed every charge that had occurred, and gave me 125 dollar credit to my account for the hassle, since it was their mistake. All in one phone call, 30 minutes total, and they effectively paid me for my time.

Meanwhile, when my price jumped up on my internet, it took Mediacom 50 days, 4 visits to their office, and a dozen phone calls and emails in order for them to provide me my contract. Once they provided me my contract (after the Iowa Attorney General's office sent them a notice to respond to me), that was that. Zero apology, zero credit. Nothing. Unf****ingbelievable. I'm counting down the days til the internet contract ends and I switch.

I have spent literally hours trying to get them to listen to reason and reward their loyal customers. Talked to a different person every time and got a different quote every time. Finally I called the Loyalty Dept. and told them I and my son have had Mediacom for five years and my brother who moved from Seattle has had Mediacom for three years, and I was having difficulty understanding how new customers can get all three services for $99 plus taxes and all the other little gems they pile on, and those you have had Mediacom for years have an increase every year or two, and have to pay an enormous fee to cancel even after returning all the equipment before the due date for such a project.....

I am trapped by my Walnut trees to the South of my property and cannot get Direct TV or Dish. I have heard that Comcast, which has almost the same reputation as Mediacom is coming to DM. I hope they do so I can try them for a year, cancel if I choose and go back to Mediacom as a new customer. If one could do without Mediacom in the Summer, after so many months you will be considered a new customer and get the new rates.....

I had comcast for 6 years in Chicago. While certainly nowhere near the best, they are MUCH better than Mediascum.

I feel like I say this once every few months, but for the sake of providing a different perspective...

I have been happy with Mediacom. Internet is better than any I've had anywhere else. In the 10 or so years I have had cable with them I can remember it going out one time and that was with a total power outage. On the flip side, any time I am at my in-laws or parents and the sun shines too bright their dish signal is lost. It is weird because everyone on here always says their dish never goes out, yet everyone I know has issues with theirs going out.

My parents have had no troubles with their dish, except when a big storm comes through from time to time. 95% of the time, it works great.

I've had Mediacom for over 25 years...hate the company. The only reason I still have it is because I have enough stress in my life without trying to switch to Direct TV. If someone can tell me how to switch without becoming so frustrated I consider putting a bullet in my brain I'm all for it.

It's really not as much of an inconvenience as you think. The Dish or Direct installers will get each TV connected. They will program the remotes to each TV and component that you have connected. They leave a channel guide so you can figure out the channel numbers and the remote control. After a few weeks, you will wonder why you waited so long to switch. The technology is better, the programming is better, the pay per view is better, the DVR is better.... Really, the only disadvantage is that you sometimes (emphasis on SOMETIMES) lose service during heavy rain or thunderstorms, and it comes back pretty quickly when it does go out.

Just take the leap. The end result is worth the minor inconvenience.

That's a hell of a plan there;) I have two huge maples that give me the same problem and I'm stuck with Mediacom as well. I don't enjoy my trees nearly as much though. One thing me and my wife tried was canceling it to say we're going to DirectTv. That alone may get you a discount. After we learned we couldn't get DirectTv my wife called and had it set back up in her name with all the discounts. The installer dude even told us your cable only has to be canceled for 30 days and you can have it installed again as a new customer. So you wouldn't have to wait the whole Summer.

Thanks for the information. Thirty days is easy enough to do if I have to. Finally we just put it in my son's name. I remember the installer saying that all you needed was another SSN. I would rather have Direct TV but I dearly love my trees, tall and shady. I remember a long time ago in the Summer there was a storm so strong the walnut trees were bending over. I really thought they were going to break.....

Once again, Thanks......

I have zero doubt what you say is true. However, you avoided the real issue...Mediacom. I have high blood pressure so "contacting" them could be bad for my health...as if it's even possible to contact Mediacom.

I'm sure the Mediacom customers in Des Moines were furious Saturday night when service went down. It's just a matter of time before Comcast gobbles up Mediacom for a snack. They just bought Time Warner this last week for $45Billion.

you need to get a hold of Dishcity because dish network can be pointed in a different direction. It is not as strong of a signal but i have had little to no problems. I had more problems with cable then i have with dish. It is worth a try.

Intimidator is correct. Once you set it up with Direct TV, the installation is usually simple and the installers are professional and friendly. One thing that makes it easier is to know exactly what package you want and tell them that immediately. You want this particular package with no changes unless they can give you the same package for less money. Be firm about that and it will go much easier. Beware of using a company called Direct Star, it looks like an official Direct TV site, but they wiill try to sell you a home security system and other things besides and once you the package up, they transfer you to another person to finalize the transaction and the price mysteriously goes uo. They can't believe someone quoted you the lower price. I would much rather have Direct for the reasons Intimadator mentioned.....

Leaving Mediacom can be easy if you are at the end of your contract or they wiil charge you a penalty of up to $200 dollars. You must give them at least 7 days notice. I finally got to the Loyalty Department and told them I had already set up the Direct TV installation and they were very nice and helpful. Their number is: 1 877 7596137.....

I have learned to survive with Mediacom, but like you wish I could get Direct TV, but the trees prevent it.....
