Former Hawkeye basketball player arrested for OWI

I can recall to this day. I was on the interstate near savannah Georgia when traffic came to a crawl for about five miles due to an accident. I can remember seeing two bodies covered with sheets as I crept by the scene. That will make you think...

Did you know at the time it was drunk driving? I personally don't drive drunk, but I would rather encounter me at .12 BAC on the road than the following people:

- Facebooking soccer mom trying to handle large Starbucks and 3 pieces of crotchfruit in backseat of Toyota Land Cruiser
- Methed out trucker who hasn't slept in 4 days
- Texting teen gal
- Makeup fixing gal on the freeway
- Gal who didn't learn what blindspots are
- Doosh who goes 90 in lane that is ending and tries to pass every car possible
- Rush Limbaugh after getting into his pills

The comments were made because of the poster who said it was no big deal. In this case he didn't kill anyone, but driving drunk is a very big deal. Do you disagree, good sir with all your nickles?

Some of you need to get a grip. He wasn't in an accident and he didn't kill anyone. He made a mistake and will pay huge consequences for it. Move along. Oh, and I'd be willing to bet my last nickle (and I have a lot of them) that most people on this board have driven drunk at least ONE time in their life.

I haven't, but my advice to those who want to roll the dice would be to (a) set the cruise control 2 mph under the speed limit and never touch the accelerator after doing that, (b) don't drive through University Heights or Windsor Heights and (c) only keep one eye open to prevent double vision.

Guess we can end this thread now and get a grip and move on . Oh my goodness, why do people keep spewing stupid.. I also think it says he was in an accident, genius..

Guess the only way it will change for some is for something not so pleasant personal affects them. Wow!

I agree okeefe with those examples as well. No I didn't know what the cause of the accident was, still don't. I just related to what can happen with drunk driving.

Driving drunk is a big deal, but MADD has lowered the standard of drunk so much that it is laughable. Kent at 0.081 BAC is a safer driver than half the morons on the road but in the eyes of the state he is public enemy number 1.

He was in an accident genius, he was drunk and got into an accident.

From the article you didn't bother to read before opening your mouth -

"According to a Coralville police criminal complaint, Michael McCausland – more commonly known by his middle name, Kent – was involved in an accident on the Interstate 80 off ramp at Coral Ridge Avenue at 5:55 p.m. Sunday night."

I haven't because of what happened to my grandma I never met. Ill get a cab these days or make sure I have a driver.

It can happen with sober driving, too. The last time I almost died while driving was the result of a teenage girl thinking she could just change lanes at will on 294 in a steady stream of traffic going 75. When she pulled off on the same exit as me and I politely explained to her that she needs to check her blind spot I got a series of expletives out of her. These kid driver license restrictions should probably be implemented for freeway usage, too. These kids do not have the attention span needed to drive on major freeways, which require undivided attention and decent driving skills.

Dude drunk driving us no joke. People die. Brothers, sisters, moms, wives. Kill yourself all you want just don't kill my friends or family or anyone that didn't drink and drive. It's irresponsible. I'm in full favor of said drunk driver losing his car to the state. Implement that and see how many fewer drunk drivers we have if it means they could lose their precious ride with 22 dubs. Get a cab or get a friend doucher.

Come on ... Hawkeye fans are better than this.

"Dubs" are 20s ... not 22s.

You be so right. Plus the fact that some can hold "their liquor" and millions of people while "driving having enjoyed drinking something" are way more safer then all the idiots that don't pay attention, people who talk on their phones, or text on their phones, or who get distracted by arguing with their spouse or kid, or way too young or old to drive because of in experience or dementia.

Do u know the details of the "accident"? I do. You know nothing. Like I said, move along.

I know he was drunk and behind the wheel. Ima give you a little piece of advice - try your very hardest not to let your adolescent worship of a former college basketball player cloud your judgement too badly or you're apt to say something you might regret. Maybe.
