I recall Jake saying in an interview, after leaving Iowa, that his throwing touch got pretty messed up - he attributed it to so much weight lifting.
What's the point of running this guy into the ground years later?
I agree.

If I remember correctly, Dantonio was desperately looking for a cyanide capsule after the game...

I can see that because his mechanics were really good his freshman season. He threw ball really well and looked the part. The he buffed up and did not look the same passing wise.
I can't imagine getting stronger could turn you from a good passer to a horrific one. I guess if he went from skinny to body builder all while never throwing a ball it's possible. But still highly unlikely. I am leaning towards agreeing with the "case of the yips" theory.

I am not sure how "likely" it is but I can attest to the fact that it does happen, at least to southpaws. As a young lefty pitcher, my fastball was good to very good until I started lifting. I watched it fall 5 to 10 mph within a few months.
Here is the strange part from his Eastern Illinois 2009 season..........
Made an impact at starting quarterback in his lone season at Eastern Illinois... earned second team All-OVC honors and All-OVC Newcomer team honors... finished season 175-of-300 from 2,204 yards and 19 touchdowns... had 11 interceptions... season best game was in win over UT Martin in which he was 18-of-21 for 322 yards and four touchdowns... ranked 30th nationally in passing efficiency and 50th nationally in total offense... ranks 10th on EIU single season list in both passing attempts and passing completions... ranks tied for 10th in single season touchdown passes.
He was a dual threat QB coming in, and we forced him behind center. He wasn't that type of QB. While he was horrible 99% of the time, the 1% he showed some glimpses of promise we were in a more hurry up offense. He was quick with his decisions (cause he didn't have to think), and we made the pocket more mobile to allow him to see down the field.
But even then, he really struggled with accuracy.
Part of the Iowa way, which is basically never (can't say absolutely never because of 2004) adapt to the personal that we have.
