For those that think college basketball is not a good product

You are wrong. I have to admit I haven't watched a ton of college basketball for the last 5 years or so but I have this year. Mainly because my oldest son is into it big time(and because I have a nice big t.v. with HD;)). But, I digress. I have watched a lot of Big 10 games this year and it has been great. The atmosphere is awesome and the games are competitive. I understand that some Hawk fans are down on it but that is entirely due to the Hawks not being competitive. The Purdue/PSU game tonight was a perfect example of how great it is. If the Hawks were competitive we would all have an entirely different view of college basketball. It is so much better than the NBA it isn't even close.

I agree, I love college basketball. The atmosphere with a packed rowdy crowd can't be beat. Just can't wait til Iowa is back dancing again.

Wow. Those arguments really changed my opinion! I was deeply moved.

hahaha

It's opinion.

I'll take the NBA over college hoops any day.

That's an opinion. lol

College basketball>>>>>>>>>>>>>NBA

The last few minutes of a close basketball game are great. Before that I really have to be a fan of the team to devote the time to watch on TV. I do tune into a lot of games late. That being said, I do the same with the NBA.

Your right it is opinion, but there are many more college basketball fans than NBA fans. I can occassionaly watch a NBA game but there product has the best players but the atmosphere of there games are not close to college. I watched 3 college games last night - the Iowa game sucked but ISU and UNI games were awesome, the NBA last night had nothing close to those games.

Would you stop bringing this topic up. There are crappy college games and crappy NBA games. There are great college games and great NBA games.

I doubt you watched the Bulls vs. Heat last Saturday night but that was about the best atmosphere I have seen this year, college or NBA. Wade and Rose were going at it in the 4th quarter and it was just amazing.

I don't know why you have a beef with NBA basketball but you keep bringing it up everywhere. See people on this board who like the NBA like college ball I guarantee, but there are a lot of college only fans on the board.

I think if you had an NBA team you followed you might have a different opinion too.

I think both the NBA and college have games that people who like BASKETBALL should be watching. Go watch Derrick Rose for a few games when you get a chance!

Bo Ryan ruined the Big Ten. Remember how basketball in the Big Ten used to be. The flying Illini and Fab 5 and Mr. Davis's run and gun. I really feel bad for the people not old enough to remember it. Now you watch games in the Big Ten and it feels like you woke up in a flying DeLorian.

Soo your argument is...

I haven't watched college basketball in years.
I don't watch the NBA at all.
I've been watching some college ball this year and I think it's better than the NBA.
You are wrong.

That's almost as well thought out as some of the crap you throw around the political forums.

The NBA is the second most popular sport in the country behind NFL football. College basketball is 5th. NBA merchandise outsells NCAA merchandise (for all sports). Maybe people in Iowa don't get it because NBA is based more in cities, but the NBA is immensely popular.

Also, the NBA had an excellent game last night between the Lakers and Mavs that was competitive until the 4th quarter, and featured three of the greatest basketball players in the world, as well as the game's greatest coach. Sorry, but nothing the Valley had to offer can compete with that.

Farmgirl. thats interesting stat, and suprises me. I always thought those rugged athletes of NASCAR rated pretty high.

I don't disagree that the NBA is popular. What is the stat on fan attendance last night, if we are going by stats how many people attended NBA games last night compared to college games.

IMO the collegiate game has a lot more casual fans that won't show up on any polls rating how popular sports are.

No, I said I haven't watched A TON of college basketball in recent years. Your reading comprehension is as good in here as it is in the political forums. I admit I don't watch the NBA but that is because every time I try it bores me to tears. My opinion wasn't that the NBA is a bad product, only that college ball is much better.

NBA hasn't been good since the 90s.

I love college basketball. Nothing in sports is better than March Madness.

March Madness is a great time of year. I like all those show down games as well that seem to start in late Feb anymore. I like to watch those random schools that are atop their conferences play hardfought close games.

Spank-

The NBA is very good. Why don't you like the NBA? Give me a reason.

You live in Minnesota? Go watch the T-Wolves, in case you have not noticed they suck but Kevin Love has 28 straight games of having a double double. You watch Iowa so you can't tell me you are oppsed to horrible basketball.

Don't get me wrong I have no iterest in watching Memphis play Indiana, but I have no interest in watching Michigan play Indiana either. Did you catch that game? I think it was Saturday night at Indiana, boy it was just absolutely terrible. I watched about 2 minutes and never turned back, holly hell it was awful.

NBA is back and has been back for about 7 years. So much good talent and despite what some people think, they do play defense. Look at the teams that have won titles in the last 10 years. All great defensive teams.

Agree....

I watched the Cyclone game last night.... How many player are in their rotation, it seemed like the same guys were playing all the time. At the end of the game they said Diante Garrett played every single seconed of the game and overtime... It was a pretty entertaining game and I plan on watching them play Saturday vs. Mizzou on ESPN U.

Not a chance in hell the NBA is #2 behind the NFL. There are numerous polls and surveys out there, and depending on your metrics...the rankings vary. But the NBA is not and has never been #2...not even in the heydey of Magic/Michael/Bird/Isiah.

Once you get outside that core sports demographic of young males the NBA drops off significantly. It has the youngest average fan age of any major sport. The other top sports enjoy much broader appeal...which in my opinion, says as much as anything.

The NBA sells lots of merchandise because David Stern built it that way...to emphaisize individual stars over teams. And that's what many of us would suggest, has lessened the quality of the game. It's all about one-on-one play and dunk highlights. (how many do I need to see? We get it: athletes are better and can dunk more easily than 30 years ago) Show me something more.

Here's one breakdown from a year ago, including data (note the pie chart) done by a major polling firm. (personally I don't think NASCAR belongs in the same discussion as football, baseball, basketball, hockey etc...but it is what it is)
