For Iowa's Post-Season, is it Big Ten Title Game or Bust?

so we need 19 wins to get in the NIT with the weakest bubble in memory? I'm NIT buying it. They are a 100% lock if they win

A couple of points:

1. Even after today's win over Illinois, the Illini still have a better chance of making the NIT than Iowa. It's because of the emphasis by the NIT over the RPI. It absolutely sucks but it's true.

2. It really doesn't make any sense to me for the B1G to take issue with one of its teams playing in the CBI. a) If they are truly for the "student-athletes" and fans first and foremost then it would be in the best interest of the "student-athletes" and the fans to get what they want and deserve. b) The B1G conference really needs to get past this "we're better than everybody else" mentality, because although they don't share the same flaws as the other BCS-level conferences, the B1G certainly has its flaws which doesn't allow it to be tangibly above any of the other BCS conferences.

I could really go on a long tirade about these last two things, but I'll side with brevity in this case. ;)

Agree. I don't know why the big ten would care either way. I bet they don't get a cut of the TV revenue because some obscure network like HD Net carries the games.

Iowa will have as many or more, top 50 rpi wins than anyone in the NIT. IfThey win tomorrow they will have the most(5). Those 5 would actually all be top 25 rpi wins. That is enough to get in.

Seton Hall is 8-10 in the big east, lost to northwestern on a neutral court and lanardi has them in the ncaa. the bubble is weeeeeeaaaak

Maybe I'm rehashing something already said, but the outcome of the NW-Minn game couldn't have turned out worse for the Hawks today. Not only does it move NW down into the NIT, it moves Minnesota up with a comparable, if not better resume than Iowa. IMO, at this point NW, Illinois, and Minnesota all have better chances of making the NIT then Iowa does. Hard to imagine 3 or 4 teams from the B1G in the NIT although stranger things have happened.

Win tomorrow and Iowa is in the NIT

Pat Harty knows nothing about Iowa bball. Can the press citizen even afford computers at this point?

Iowa wins tomorrow and this all changes

It could actually save the NIT money by having it in an NCAA format don't ya think? Have you been to many NIT games. A majority of them have crowds at barely half capacity. That's a lot of resources being used for those kinds of crowds. There are exceptions like Syracuse in 2007. But those crowds are few and far between.

Not to mention, the NCAA is trying to make an effort to legitimize this tournament in a way. I would think having games on a neutral floor would be a good step at doing that.

So if NIT games don't draw on the home campus, how the hell would they draw more at a neutral site? NCAA games have a tough enough time selling out let alone an NIT game.

A B1G team playing in the CBI is a conflict of interest because the games are shown on HDNet? What the heck is the problem????

Gee, I thought we beat Minnesota twice this year. I would think that should give us some edge on them.

Fran even said last year he'd be willing to play in the CBI.

I don't get why they wouldn't accept an offer if it was extended. Still would like some sort of answer on that. It clearly isn't Fran who would say no.

Even if we somehow beat Sparty, our RPI probably won't match up with other teams-maybe around 100?. Yet, we'd have 5 wins vs. top 25 teams. Such a disconnect and depends on the criteria they're really using.

It's going to be stupid when Northwestern gets in the NIT and we don't because they played and lost to a bunch of good teams. That makes sense.

God the RPI sucks.

yes, this RPI formula is starting to really hiss me off.

So, the whole season boils down to a bad loss to Campbell back in November?
Other than that, which losses are really bad? Clemson? Winning record team from the ACC? UNI on the road? Nebraska at home? Avenged that loss with a win over there.
We have those 4 great wins over top 25 teams, and those do not outweigh Campbell?
From what I see, after Campbell,we would have had to almost run the table to get back in the top 50? Ridiculous. Go back to the last ten games being important to get the hot teams in the tourny.

Those early wins were over some really bad teams which don't help much either. Iowa's non-conference schedule wasn't very tough.

I do get what you are saying though. Iowa is a MUCH better team than back when they lost to Campbell.
