Ferentz to Philadelphia??

Boy I really hate to start a thread about this but here it goes. Philly recently abruptly let Chip Kelly go. Is there any way at this point that Ferentz could possibly end up in Philly? Does Philly have a hire in mind the way it went down?

The only reason I entertain this is that in the past, Ferentz wanted his boys to play & graduate from Iowa. He had reasons to stay then in recent years had a downturn so didn't get many overtures from the NFL. Do you think he still has any interest at all coaching in the NFL at his age now? If he does, with the success of this year, he may think this could be his last and only chance.

The reason Philly is so intriguing is that it is his home state and has two NFL teams. He has stated in the past that he would need the perfect situation. I don't know. But when Philly let Kelly go it just made me think. Letting him go the week of the major bowl games so they could possibly have a coach in mind after the games this week. I'm not even sure they would even go the college coach route, but Ferentz is unique with his NFL experience, especially under Belichek.

OK. You may blast me now with the proverbial "Here we go again thread...."!!:p

Seems pretty obvious this is happening when you think about it.

I just have this weird feeling. I have no idea what kind of family or relatives they may have in PA now. They have been in Iowa City so long, that it may be there retirement home. Who knows.

All I'm saying that if he still had any remote interest, this may be his last chance, and a chance to coach a team in his stomping grounds. I really think he wanted to wait for a Steelers opening as that's a really good situation, but Tomlin doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon. Just throwing it out there. In my eyes, it could happen. Again, just a weird feeling.

Ferentz got the team to the Rose Bowl so he may feel he's done what he can at Iowa, especially if they win the game. He may want to go out on top and leave the program in good position.

I do not see this happening now unless he really wants to scratch an itch at the end of his career. NFL coaches are hired to be fired. That is how his career could likely end as opposed to riding off in the sunset with full honor and glory at Iowa and possibly being succeeded by his son.

In the end he's earned the right to do what he wants. If he goes, he goes and we move onto the next chapter. The program is in very good shape and this job will be attractive to many.

First of all Philly is never the perfect opportunity to be a head coach in any sport. The fans booed Mike Schmidt toward the end of his career, my gawd, Schmidt gave everything plus 20% to that team and they booed him. They booed Santa Claus.

I think Philly is a crap sports town because of its fans. And now the Eagles have a terrible roster with a spread offense passing type roster, not the type of players Ferentz wins with or type of pro-style running game he uses.

It might be a good opportunity because the Eagles have crashed and burned. If Ferentz got a great offensive line in a year or so and still had Demarco Murray then KF could win there.

I just doubt he is thinking NFL at this age.

If you had to put a % on it, what would it be he would go? Just curious of people's thoughts.

Valid points about the current roster. Kelley was a train wreck, especially after he got the reigns to the personnel.

And this brings up another point about NFL owners. Let's start at the beginning as in why would Jerry Jones let Demarco Murray get away from the Cowboys after the boys built the best run blocking line in football and had the best runner. Why tag Dez Bryant with the frnachise tag when he touches the ball maybe 8 times a game but Murray can touch it 25-30 times a game. The owners can really screw up a team.

Now jump to Lurie the Eagles owner who let Kelly be GM or at least handle personnel decisions and ruin their roster in one year. Lurie paid for Murray but their Off Line must be crap in the run game. I just dont see KF wanting to be third fiddle to the owner or the GM and I doubt KF wants to be GM over personnel decisions etc.

The Eagles fans chased Andy Reid out and Reid has done great in KC.

I have a feeling 2016 might be his last year as head coach at Iowa. CJ will be back for his Senior season in 2016. The schedule is a little harder in 2016, but it gets brutal in 2017.
And Stephen Ferentz will be about done at Iowa with his walk-on career.

Maybe Ferentz takes some time off or maybe decides to try the NFL, and he will bring Brian along to whatever NFL team he goes to.

Maybe he will take over for Barta as the AD. He makes KOK the head coach and Brian the OC. Who really knows.

-25% Are we accepting negative percentages? If the Steelers came calling I doubt at this stage in his career he'd go. He is 60. An NFL team will not come calling on an unproven nfl coach at 60 years old. Just my opinion.

There's no way Philly goes back to the college ranks right after Chip Kelly. No way. They'll hire a previous NFL head coach or an up and coming coordinator, but they've soured on college coaches for the time being.

KF does not particularly like to deal with the Iowa media, especially when things are not going well. The Philadelphia media would eat him alive. This season has bought KF plenty of goodwill with Iowa fans. He has likely achieved legend status, especially if he wins the Rose Bowl. KF is not going anywhere.

If he was offered the Steelers job he may have left in '06. Not sure if he even interviewed for the KC job when Pioli was in charge in KC. The only one that had smoke was the Jacksonville job. At this point I think he stays until 2020 he is basically grooming Brian to take over in 2021. Barring some major scandal he will have enough pull to get Brian the gig.

Do you think Matt Campbell would take Ferentz as a video assistant or quality control assistant like one of the twenty guys with that title at any program these days? Ferentz can mix Matt's protein shakes and he can be the guy with the camera on the platform filming practices on windy days.
