Ferentz Statement on Micah Hyde

At the very least I would guess he won't be a captain anymore. That said I wouldn't be shocked if he played Saturday. I don't think he should make the trip but we will have to wait and see what happens.

You know what, **** MSU. Doing the right thing is lost when playing these guys. Don't lose the game a la CMU because of stupid penalties but in-between the whistles kick their *** every chance you get.

Every time you post it becomes more clear to me you have no idea what you're talking about. Ever. About anything.

Bad take bro...

I would be OK with him sitting a half. But if it were me, he wouldn't play. Senior Captain running from the PO-PO? Not cool.
Let's find out who the cop was that caught him. Does he have any elegibility left?

We don't know what running from the cops really means in this case, a subjective interpretation/enhancer thrown in. The Gazette reported that the "group" he was in "fled". Were they running arm in arm like the team when they come out of the tunnel, or were they more haphazard, like the video of the ISU guy running into the goalpost? Still a little vague to me.

Reading Ferentz's statement, this is out of character for Hyde, it appears he hasn't caused any problems in the past.

Reading the sanctions for a Category II Misconduct (which this would be, at the worst) includes - warning, reprimand, probation with or without conditions, . . . , suspension from practice, suspension from competition . . .

A lot of latitude on this. No need for an immediate suspension, maybe save it for the Indiana game, if it's needed at all. They could string the investigation out until then, I'm sure.

i have a hunch that because he was a captain that the entire team will be running their ***** off.

I am more concerned that he was caught two blocks later. I hope he stopped on his own. He is our punt return guy. Public intox and interference - simple misdemeanor same as a speeding ticket. Hyde has been a good kid and this is all the trouble he has been in in four years. I suspect most college kids at Iowa have had something similar after four years there. These guys provide us with our entertainment every week so I am not going to hold anything against him or the others for this small stuff and life is not fare so why do we want to pretend that is by saying they are not above it.

I thought Brian Kelly's punishment was to go up in a scissor lift with a 50 mph gale force wind blowing.

That's for people who are expendable in the program. Starting players are not expendables. Random students who want to videotape practice, you can replace him in 10 mins.

I don't think anyone disagrees that he deserves to be punished...

No, you don't just forget it all. But this isn't the sort of thing your captains should be doing on the bye week. He does deserve to be punished for his actions.

in some way. The difference is in how much. And there are reasonable arguments on both sides. 4 years into his college career and nary a discipline problem and he has something in the middle of the season. It wasn't a DUI, wasn't an assault. It was doing something dumb which was embarrassing but ultimately not a danger to anyone else.

Not starting? Sitting a quarter? Sitting out the entire game seems a bit harsh to me, but there really is no perfect answer on this one.

It's truly amazing how it makes news. Happens at an SEC school, or USC, or ND, and it hardly gets covered, or they "spin" with "starter loses starting job".

For us? "Hyde rewarded with starter position!"

I don't think he should start (or even make the trip if you ask me) but until we have a guy get released from jail and play in a game the same week KF has a long way to go to be viewed as someone that doesn't take discipline of players seriously.
