Ferentz Statement on Micah Hyde

I think we should be more worried that the Hawk's starting CB and punt returner can't outrun the IC PoPo.

Punt returners from the SEC don't get caught in a foot race with five-O.
While probably true, do we have any evidence that SEC PoPo has ever attempted to hand out a PI citation to anyone who even appears to be on the football team?

He can drink, sure, but as a captain of the football team, he has higher expectations. He should have left when asked, not given the bar staff any crap, and not run from the police. Three poor choices made. Drink at home during the season would have been the best choice

Stupid. Immature. Kirk may or may not make an example of him. If he does it is deserved.

It's "deserved" right up until his replacement gives up 12 catches and 3 TDs...strip Hyde of his captaincy in front of the team, make him run some stairs and remind everyone that "bye week" doesn't mean "off season" and go kick Sparty's overrated a$$es...

Still don't get our drug/intoxication/behavior laws in America. Especially in Iowa City. Really need to re-think and re-do laws.

In the meantime Micah Hyde is no longer a captain, needs to run some steps and do some extra community service. For this weeks game against the Spartans he shouldn't start... maybe not play a quarter.

As many have suggested before... the Spartans start, without suspensions, numerous players that have violated the law forever. Give back and pay back... Iowa 24 MI State 21

The defensive back was reported to be one of 15 people fighting with the staff of the Old Capitol Brew Works at closing time on Saturday. Hyde reportedly attempted to flee from the police after they arrived on the scene, but was apprehended two blocks away from the bar.

So teh cops must use the same punt protection package as Minnesota.

Agreed. As I see it, the real problem is he ran from the police.

Or the bar patrons could of told the cops that it was no big deal that everyone was leaving so forget it.Cops could of told them to go home and sleep it off since no body was hurt but why do that.

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread...

Has anyone thought about punishing him by taking away his captain status? He obviously isn't setting a good example.

No.. you are the first one... Great Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whats the big deal??? he had a few drinks. He's a college student. Geeez

He's a senior CAPTAIN on the team and is sending an OUTSTANDING message to the rest of his teammates. Yeah, don't punish him for RUNNING from the police! He is a college student, but he broke the law....not sure where the get out of jail free card comes in just because you're in college.

So are we supposed to just forget about all the time that he's been representing the University in high standing? He has been a tremendous student athlete his entire time here, and you want to throw him under the bus because of this incident.
I would reluctantly agree with taking his captaincy, but a suspension would be ludicrous.

I hope nobody ever peeks into your closets.

If he plays, he better play his arse off in this game. I think he sits for a half. What a dumbshat thing to do, to put the team and his coach in this position.

MSU player was released from a longer stink in jail in the middle of the week before the game if I remember right.

You know what, **** MSU. Doing the right thing is lost when playing these guys. Don't lose the game a la CMU because of stupid penalties but in-between the whistles kick their *** every chance you get.

No, you don't just forget it all. But this isn't the sort of thing your captains should be doing on the bye week. He does deserve to be punished for his actions.

Right, so play down to their level of sportsmanship? You're better than that Iowa fan.

Punishment, but no suspension from games, unless there is more to this story.

Take away his Cap status, and make him sit for min of a half this week, along with a lot of other "corporal punishment" from the coach.
