Ferent'z future

I think that is the only job he would leave for at this point ... I think James being on the team helps us ... unless JoePa can outlast James' eligibilty ;)

Ferentz is not the type of guy that would take another job within the conference. So I feel comfortable saying with 100% certainty that there's no way he goes to Penn St.

I really think he will stay at Iowa through the 2017 season (which would be his youngest, Steven's, final year) and then retire. That would put him at 62 years old.

Exactly. I just don't see him doing it. He's too respectful. Now, he may wish the timing would have been better or that he could have taken it 12 yrs ago but I don't think he would now. It prob was on job on his short list he would have liked yrs ago but it just didn't work out that way.

I do feel he would leave for the Pittsburgh Steelers job if ever came open in the next few yrs, though. Or at least seriously consider it.

This. But if he should leave, I think we make a push to get Beilema. Some people can take shots at the guy all they want but he can coach and isn't afraid of making mistakes. I'll take the risk taker mentality over the conservative approach any day.

I think there may be some truth to Ferentz leaving sometime in the near future simply because of the loss of Norm. I think Norm was the glue that held this staff together. I don't see the other Parker taking over as DC either so internally there could be some problems.

Beilema's contract runs through 2012 unless there was an extension that I couldn't find. The guy has a 45-15 overall record and is 23-13 in conference including this year. His teams have been to a bowl every year he's been a HC and have finished the season ranked every year with only one exception.

He has ties to Iowa as both a player and coach.

Plenty of HCing experience and Iowa ties. He's young, energetic and tough as nails. He would be my choice should Ferentz decide to leave or refuse to fire the current OC.

I don't see him moving either. It's simply a lateral move & he has things going well at Wisconsin now. They also have a rockin' stadium & I suspect living in Madison is not too shabby. I think he's closed his door on Iowa.

Why the jab at KOK? The Iowa O has been rolling ... and that's even with the unit capable of doing even more. After all, it wasn't KOK who made Chaney drop a would-be reception for first down. It wasn't KOK would was responsible for the false-start penalty on a 3rd and 1 at the Wisky 10 yard line. The Iowa O scored 30 points ... and arguably should have scored EVEN MORE had the execution been just a bit better!

Was talking with some people on Saturday and one said that he thought Ferentz would head to PSU if offered the job. I know he just signed a big extension, but it is his home state and it would be easier to recruit. I hope he stays a Hawk until he retires, but what do you think?

Was this a conversation you had with this one person before or after the game? I will give you credit, at least you didn't cap on him for making over $3million/year, but this subject is close.

This is a stupid post! We go through this every year and only the people that are clueless would bother to state the PSU comments about Ferentz. He will be at Iowa for another 10-15 years, take it to the bank.

How can Kirk go when all of Nebraska thinks Bo/Carl Pelini is getting that job? Funny post, Kirk is not going anywhere. Pelini on the other hand.

Penn State does not allow the children of multi-millionaires to live in low income housing, so we have the advantage.

I thought Penn St. already has the next coach in place much like Florida St. had with Bowden. I also think it is their current offensive coord. don't remeber his name but has red hair.

Rumors rumors rumors.. here we go again

Rolling? WTF would you consider to be a bad offense? We are ranked #50 in total offense, #43 in passing offense and #60 in rushing offense. Our 3rd down efficiency is #43 as well. We have converted on two 4th downs this year which ranks 95th. The only thing that is winning games is our defense because special teams is killing us too.

Our average Time of Possession is 31:04 so it's not like our D is on the field a bunch.

Execution is what coaches are paid for. How many 'five men in the backfield' have been called on us this year? Our offense is predictable and vanilla at best.

KOK is a brutal OC and has been since he's been at Iowa. The only thing that continues to save his job is the loyalty that KF shows to his coaches and the Iowa defense. There is a reason that an OC for a top 25 team continues to be OC well past his prime and it's because he's not a good candidate for a HC position.

33.7 points and 414 yards/game. 51.7% on 3rd downs.

This is starting to get into bizarro world territory. There are some folks out there who are so angry about the game they are refusing to acknowledge basic facts. We have a very good offensive team. Ken O'Keefe is the coordinator of the offense. We have a very good quarterback, and a very good backup quarterback, and Ken O'Keefe is the quarterbacks coach. Get over the KOK thing. It's boring.

I gave you facts right off of ESPNs college football website. We have played two ranked teams and both teams beat us. Don't give me any guff about blah blah blah being ranked when we played them. As the season progresses the cream will always rise to the top regardless of where they are ranked early on.

That means we are either giving up too many points or not scoring enough. We're ranked middle of the pack or worse in offensive categories. Defensively we rank near the top. You connect the dots.

We are the 8th best offensive team in the Big10 based on Total offense. Only PSU, Illinois and Purdue produce less yards per game. These are YTD figures and not conference stats. I will post conference stats in my next thread.

I really didn't think I'd have to bring out the chalkboard on this one but I guess some of you just like to operate with your heads in the sand. FYI - these stats have pretty much held true for the past X # of years. We win with defense and lose when our offense fails to produce.

We are the 5th best scoring offense in the Big10.

We are 2nd in scoring defense.

We are also 7th in total offense in conference play. Again, statistics don't lie.

We are 8th best in total first downs.

We are 10th in 4th down conversions.

Here is a fact...Iowa had the 2nd to worst rushing offense in 2004, 101st out of 116 in total offense, 68th in scoring defense and gave up more than 17 points per game, and that team shared a Big Ten title.

Iowa is 5-2 right now because special teams have let it down. This offense is more than good enough to lead Iowa to victories.

Some are over analyzing things; it's inconsistent special teams play and a few other little things that cost Iowa the Wisconsin and Arizona games.

If Kirk coaches after Iowa, it will be in the NFL. I do not see him taking another college job, ever.

I agree. He's really got nothing to gain by leaving Iowa. He's a top 5 or 10 paid college football coach in the country. His kids play/played for the program. He's got complete control over the athletic department. He's proven that he is worthy of all accolades placed on him. Nothing left to prove other than a national championship but who really wants to add that pressure for a few more $'s? I wouldn't.
