Ferentz is not the type of guy that would take another job within the conference. So I feel comfortable saying with 100% certainty that there's no way he goes to Penn St.
I really think he will stay at Iowa through the 2017 season (which would be his youngest, Steven's, final year) and then retire. That would put him at 62 years old.
This. But if he should leave, I think we make a push to get Beilema. Some people can take shots at the guy all they want but he can coach and isn't afraid of making mistakes. I'll take the risk taker mentality over the conservative approach any day.
I think there may be some truth to Ferentz leaving sometime in the near future simply because of the loss of Norm. I think Norm was the glue that held this staff together. I don't see the other Parker taking over as DC either so internally there could be some problems.
Beilema's contract runs through 2012 unless there was an extension that I couldn't find. The guy has a 45-15 overall record and is 23-13 in conference including this year. His teams have been to a bowl every year he's been a HC and have finished the season ranked every year with only one exception.
He has ties to Iowa as both a player and coach.
Plenty of HCing experience and Iowa ties. He's young, energetic and tough as nails. He would be my choice should Ferentz decide to leave or refuse to fire the current OC.

Was talking with some people on Saturday and one said that he thought Ferentz would head to PSU if offered the job. I know he just signed a big extension, but it is his home state and it would be easier to recruit. I hope he stays a Hawk until he retires, but what do you think?
This is a stupid post! We go through this every year and only the people that are clueless would bother to state the PSU comments about Ferentz. He will be at Iowa for another 10-15 years, take it to the bank. Was talking with some people on Saturday and one said that he thought Ferentz would head to PSU if offered the job. Why the jab at KOK? The Iowa O has been rolling ... and that's even with the unit capable of doing even more. After all, it wasn't KOK who made Chaney drop a would-be reception for first down. It wasn't KOK would was responsible for the false-start penalty on a 3rd and 1 at the Wisky 10 yard line. The Iowa O scored 30 points ... and arguably should have scored EVEN MORE had the execution been just a bit better!
Rolling? WTF would you consider to be a bad offense? We are ranked #50 in total offense, #43 in passing offense and #60 in rushing offense. Our 3rd down efficiency is #43 as well. We have converted on two 4th downs this year which ranks 95th. The only thing that is winning games is our defense because special teams is killing us too.
Our average Time of Possession is 31:04 so it's not like our D is on the field a bunch.
Execution is what coaches are paid for. How many 'five men in the backfield' have been called on us this year? Our offense is predictable and vanilla at best.
KOK is a brutal OC and has been since he's been at Iowa. The only thing that continues to save his job is the loyalty that KF shows to his coaches and the Iowa defense. There is a reason that an OC for a top 25 team continues to be OC well past his prime and it's because he's not a good candidate for a HC position.
33.7 points and 414 yards/game. 51.7% on 3rd downs.
This is starting to get into bizarro world territory. There are some folks out there who are so angry about the game they are refusing to acknowledge basic facts. We have a very good offensive team. Ken O'Keefe is the coordinator of the offense. We have a very good quarterback, and a very good backup quarterback, and Ken O'Keefe is the quarterbacks coach. Get over the KOK thing. It's boring.
I gave you facts right off of ESPNs college football website. We have played two ranked teams and both teams beat us. Don't give me any guff about blah blah blah being ranked when we played them. As the season progresses the cream will always rise to the top regardless of where they are ranked early on.
That means we are either giving up too many points or not scoring enough. We're ranked middle of the pack or worse in offensive categories. Defensively we rank near the top. You connect the dots.
If Kirk coaches after Iowa, it will be in the NFL. I do not see him taking another college job, ever.
